Only my family knows and some friends that collect as well.
I was wondering does anyone hide there collection when they have people over?
In other words are people embarrased that they collect cards?

I hide it so they don't get damaged or spilled on. I'm not embarrassed I have some good stuff!!!
Hidden Content - use the drop down box at the top left to view all my other albums
Brian Orakpo/Sean Taylor/Craig Kimbrel Super Collector - I collect Lucky 13 Football RCs (04-07 all versions). Also like current Braves (Acuna/Albies/Dansby/Soroka/Strider/Riley/Harris/Fried, etc.), Mike Trout, Juan Soto, Roger Federer.

My parents know i collect and that i spend a good bit and so do some friends but they really don't understand it, the friends i've met through working at the LCS are the only guys that actually get it.

I like to show off some of my stuff...but, it's all put away when people are over...I'll pull out a few cards to show, but never pull out the entire box or anything...I'd bore the daylights out of people if I did that! lol

I find it interesting how similar (for the most part) everyone hides(?) the hobby. I never really sat down and thought about it, but I'm the same way. I don't go around telling family, friends, gf etc that I collect sports cards. I think it's kind of true for any hobby though. There's something intimate about it. A hobby is an escape, something you do for your own pleasure and the majority of the people you encounter aren't going to understand that.

That's a very good assessment. I don't think that I hide my collecting - I just don't share it with many people - same thing, in a sense, I suppose. But, it's not that I'm blatently thinking "don't share this with anyone"...I just don't share it with many...and it's not that I'm embarrassed by it either...more of a protection against someone getting sticky fingers, in my case.

I'm the only one in my family who collects, though it was my dad who introduced me to cards when I was a kid. My dear one thinks it's a cute hobby for me, but he's not into any sports outside of MMA, so he can't get into my basketball card collection. However, he finds it awesome for the sole reason that it's not stereotypical female behavior. I mean, I collect cards instead of shoes. How many women can say that?

i have my colection hidden away anywho. i migh have a lewis auto or gu/patch on my dresser or something and my freinds might say something but i dont show them any of it lol that would be both awkward and boring for them unless they collected too which none of them do.. my dad used to by me 1$ packs of cards when i was younger and when i saw there was gu/patch cards it all went downhill from there!

I agree. I don't share with many friends or family because they don't understand it. Like with a lot of hobbies, they don't do it so they don't get it.
I'm guilty of the same thing though. I have no problem dropping a boatload of money on my card collection, but I have a friend who has a comic book collection and I think it's ridiculous. Go figure!

I tend to keep my binders upstairs so nothing happens to them. My room next to my bed is the most calm place in the house lol.. especially when people leave cups and plates around.
