Does PSA Authenticate when they grade?

I bought a Gretzky Topps RC PSA 6 about a year ago for what I thought was a really decent price of $160 DLVD from Ebay. Whats Ive always wondering was if PSA Autheticated the cards when they grade them. I guess its always concerned me that the card may be a fake or what not.

If I remember correctly, PSA and BGS do authenticate when they grade...but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will chime in with the definite answer.

I got my Gretzky OPC a few years ago myself. I sent it to Beckett through my LCS. I've been told by them (because they deal with beckett stuff all the time), if the Gretzky is a fake Beckett will not even slab it or grade it. They will send it back saying it's a fake. Hope this helps.

I dont see PSA making the name they have in the hobby by grading fake cards, but I figured one of the experts here in the grading scene would be able to answer this and ease my mind.

Like I said, its not like the card will go anywhere, I figure a PSA 6 is a respectable grade for that card at the price, so Im sure it will be in the family for a long time.

Well, there's only one way to find out. Good luck.

I heard of folk mentioning that sometimes a real card can be broken out of the slab and then a fake one put back in. How would one know just food for thought.

If you can show me a way to open beckett slabs unharmed, please let me know. Thanks.

Yeah, I've never heard a report of a BGS or PSA slab being re-used, because the process of opening them leaves them crippled and practically useless.

Trust me when I tell you it has happened 100% to a member on another site and it was a pretty big deal as well....

As everyone else has said.... if they grade them, they're authentic. I beleive I've read in another couple of threads that PSA won't even grade ones that have been laser cut from a sheet (only ones that came out of packs) but Beckett will.

IMO - PSA is the way to go, if you bought a Gretzky.
