Yeah ... have to agree on this one too. My sister in law came over a few weeks back and grabs the remote and turns on "The real housewives of something or another" ...... I looked at her, grabbed my remote back and said "No Way, not in my house"!

Its been the trend for the last few yrs so basically if I made a show about my day to day and threw into the mix a wild nut and some sexi gal... it could be a show and I know you would watch. I would watch the repeats myself but its amazing that this is the trend for shows.
My 2 cents on shows of this nature would be:
-Bad Girls Club <<< its a sick obsession
-Jry Shore, dear gosh they are everywhere

I assume you're talking about things like No Reservations, Bizarre Foods/World, History Channel stuff, etc...I don't consider those "reality" tv. Obviously they're about reality, but I consider those educational. To me, the term "reality tv" belongs to the drama and contest shows where not only do you not learn anything, but you actually become dumber watching them. I love History Channel, most of Travel Channel, some of Discovery and TLC, that kind of stuff is a large portion of the stuff I watch.

but reality shows also dictate towards reallife scenarios - Animal Cops, the Colony, Deadliest Catch, the first 48, Ice Road Truckers, Intervention, Manhunters, Whale Wars, and probably tons more that give a lot of insight into some dangerous and fascinating situations

True, I forgot all about that segment. I find some of them interesting (Ice Road Truckers and logging shows), but I hate how they're produced, always playing up the most possible drama.
I guess I need to re-evaluate my reality tv classifications...I think the term "idiocy tv" would fit appropriately to what I formerly called "reality."
I'm a fan of American Pickers too.

Im with the last few posts here too. Any of the shows mentioned that actually bring some educational value to TV are worth watching. The one and only Reality TV contest that is fun would be Amazing Race. I hate the rest of them. Deal or no Deal, Big Brother, Survivor. They are all terrible.

I just watched a few episodes of American Pickers the other night, pretty cool actually. Some of the stuff they find is pretty amazing!
Pawn Stars ... not so good.
