I have a question for you guys ... how will Panini make jersey/patch cards from older player? I think that ITG and UD have lots of jerseys from differents years, but since Panini is new, they will have less jerseys from older player but lots of new-player jerseys?

First of all, UD doesn't really have much as far as vintage, especially relative to ITG, it's a HUGE discrepancy there.

Panini, even though they don't have all licenses, has the ability to buy up sports memorabilia like anyone else. From what I understand they have a small stash of stuff already and have been continuing to acquire items in the months preceding this announcement.

The newer stuff will done with help from the NHL and PA so they should be good there.

Actually bought my first Panini product on ebay today, 2008-09 Kris Russell sticker. lol I probably will decide when they release their products if it looks neat enough to bust. Otherwise I'll probably just chase any Kris Russell cards as singles.

Ill be chasing any and every Alex Steen card released but for breaks i will still do ITG and ill probably try some Panini. I am excited to see some older sets come back. Plus if Panini has to, for the most part, buy new jerseys that means we could see Alex Steen Blues patches. Im pumped for that. UD boycott continues.

I agree, I want to start breaking stuff again instead of maybe 1 or 2 boxes a year. I'll have to see what the choices are. I would LOVE to see them make a Topps C55 type set again, that was one of my favorites. Then again, that's what Champs is I guess, lol.

The way that I have seen it, is Panini has basically destroyed Basketball with the products that they have released this year. Very unmotivated designs, lots of redemptions, tends to be a lot of boxes missing "hits". The list goes on and on. I am not the least bit excited to see Panini enter the market.

I think I am prejudiced. Every time I hear the word "Panini", I have it engrained in my mind, a paper-thin sticker that has horrid bleeding colors. I guess it is from what I have seen in the past - not just the recent hockey stickers, but the soccer and non-sport (kid's products) as well. Blecch!!

Having said that, I have not broken much product recently - mostly buy singles here and there! I'll take a look, pick up a few Paninis, but will probably continue buying mostly UD and ITG (NHL licensed or not).

I am not a big fan of ITG cards in general although most of their patches and game used are nice. I am looking forward to see what Panini brings to the table. As I have said before, as a set collector I will have to be more picky about what sets I put together in the future. As a player collector I will still try and get as many of my players as I can.

Give it some time to acquire the materials for game used and autographs. I do agree some of their basketball stuff is monotonous.

This is going to be great and force UD to pick up their game

I despise UD and their unsavoury practices. For some reason ITG has some sort of legal restriction against manufacturing Lundqvist cards. If it weren't for that I would be a huge buyer of ITG and never have to spend another dollar on UD cards. I for one am glad that Panini is getting into the hockey market. They've done a pretty decent job with their basketball products so far imo.

This is an interesting read. Upper Deck loses its exclusive signing deals with players but how can the NHL/NHLPA really enforce that? If Crosby only wants to sign for UD and not Panini how can they make him sign for the other company?

Also Crosby should sign dual/triple/quad auto cards. Would add more value to products.
