Anyone else on a diet?
I am on a diet, anyone else? I am doing a high fiber, low fat diet. I am 30 yrs old and way out of shape, In the past, I only put junk food into my body. My cholesterol is really bad. I just started to exercise recently. I am walking about a 1-2 miles almost everyday. I have been doing this diet for about 4 weeks now. I have lost around 14 lbs. I am trying to increase my omega 3. I hate fish and have a hard time swallowing the horse size omega 3 pills. I am taking flax seed meal that has some omega 3 in it. I am also taking lecitine granules. I am also taking apple cider viniger. I am feeling great doing this diet so far.

I need to be on a diet. I'm 50 lbs overwieght. My problem is willpower. I have lost the weight and gained it back so many times. Its easy for me to lose the weight I just eat half as much, walk and not eat after 6pm. If I get the munchies after 6 I drink a large glass of water and that takes care of it.

Need to drop about 25-30lbs. I'm in the same boat with the cholesterol. I really need to at least get walking but it is hard with working retail, my wife does also and we work opposite shifts and have a 16 month old. Doesn't leave a lot of time.
Although if I stopped snacking after dinner (or have a small healthy snack) that should help but the hunger gets the better of me usually.

First of all, congrats on taking the initiative to improve your health. Not enough of the American populace is doing it. Most numbers cited put 1/3 of Americans in the obese range and 1/3 in the overweight range, so 2 of every 3 Americans aren't taking optimal care of themselves.
I had to start a diet back in 2008 when my own stupid consumption habits caught up to me and I found myself 2 pounds overweight for the first time in my life. My cholesterol was 40 HDL and 160 LDL that year. Trans fat popcorn, red meat overindulgence, overconsumption of calories in general, and lack of exercise will do that to a person.
In 2009, I gradually lost those 25 pounds I gained and changed my cholesterol from 40 HDL and 160 LDL to 70 HDL and 90 LDL. I actually ate more unsaturated fat in the form of nuts along with more complex and fibrous carbohydrates while decreasing saturated and trans fats as well as junk carbohydrates (donuts and whatever). I got back into an exercise routine, too.
I got my cholesterol tested again in late March this year: 65 HDL and 58 LDL, even better than my numbers last year. It's exceptionally rare (and healthy) to have higher HDL than LDL, and I've now done it. Anyone who says diet can't affect cholesterol is mistaken. It's not all hereditary or age-related. I've proven otherwise.
Anyway, this is all to further encourage you in your efforts. Keep them up; you'll see change in time. Omega 3s are great as well - most people don't consume enough fish. Men tend to overdo the red meat and women tend to overdo chocolate, both of which are high in saturated fats and omega 6 fatty acids. For my part, I've always liked shellfish, but now it's a much more major staple of my diet. Since you don't like fish, the omega 3 pills will help you out; I still take 1-3 of those every day while keeping up the shellfish and tuna intake. My dad started them recently since his triglycerides are astronomically high (my mother's are also pretty high; mine, on the other hand, are low - once again proving that diet plays a bigger part than genetics in many instances).

I am attempting a more natural diet. I am eating more fruits and veggies, and a lot more whole grains. I am not really "overweight" but I have a little extra around my torso that gradually packed on over the last 10 years. I am also a former smoker.
I am trying to do the following:
Eat at least 1 apple per day - these have all kinds of benefits
Eat more greens. Usually in salad. Using more spinach and leafy lettuces and using a extra-virgn-olive-oil based italian that we mix ourselves - olive oil helps your body absorb more nutrients from the greens
Eat more nuts - at least one handful of mixed per day
Cut down on High Fructose Corn Syrup intake - it confuses your brain and doesn't let you feel the full feeling when you should, so you eat more.
Eat more whole grains. Kashi GOLEAN cereals taste pretty good and are loaded with them - great source of fiber, and protein in some of them. I think they also have some Omega-3s. I am also using the little flat rolls from Nature's Own (whole wheat) for sandwiches. Tastes decent and provides some decent fiber.
Veggies - more fresh produce instead of the canned stuff we usually use. Wife is working on starting a veggie garden as well.
Exercise - Have not hit this one yet, but we are about to sign up at the local wellness center which should help.
Green tea - goal is to drink at least one cup of self-brewed green tea. No additives (sugar/honey/etc). Great source of antioxidants!
I am hoping simply switching to a more whole/natural foods diet (I still eat steak and hamburgers but have made large attempts to cut out fast food entirely) will help drop some of the fat and help re-invigorate the rest of my body(I have a major lack of energy some days). I had dropped a couple pounds before we went on vacation last week (honeymoon) and I ruined it all by splurging on fast food. bleh. My weight has been fluctuating a few pounds between days anyhow lately, where it used to be rock solid stable 10 years ago.
Good luck to everyone!

I started a diet this year and I'm down 13 pounds so far. Dieting is a change in life style. I've done a lot of little things that helped out. I know longer go to the vending machine a work - I snack on a rice cake instead. When I eat out I try to stick with grilled chicken or fish for an entree and ask for vegetables instead on french fries. No carbs after 5pm. I noticed by doing a lot of little things it really helped out.
