Myers without a doubt.
Howard is the only other person to come close.
Duchene or Tavares would have had to hit 65+ points compared to what Howard and Myers did to stand a chance.
If Tavares wins, it's a slap in the face to the rest of the rookies.
Should end:
Myers
Howard
Duchene

if you think that 16 points in the final 21 games (which is more than Duchene) and a +8 is not doing much down the stretch is not doing much, then you are 100% correct.
the only player that can take it from Myers in Jimmy Howard, which is a real possibility as he was fantastic after the Olympics.

It IS an easy choice. Duchene wins with myers a very close 2nd. From there take your pick of Howard, Rask, and Bergfors for the 3rd nominee.
While I say it will be close, I have no doubt Duchene will win.

Myers wins it. Scott, you put it best with those stats down the stretch. In my opinion, for a D-Man to get 48 points and finish at +13 says it all. If your top forward RC finished with only 7 more points and a +/- that was 11 points less, it's not even a debate for Myers to beat out Duchene. The only person who should get it other than Myers is Howard. His stats were pretty good but really, there is NO reason why he should have been the reason for them to make the playoffs. Was he? IMO yes but he really shouldn't have even had to be. Detroit should be a much better team than what they finished this year. Just my thoughts.

My votes would go...
1. Howard
2. Myers
3. Duchene
Howard played nearly every game and brought the team back from way out of the playoffs. Tons of pressure to get the Wings in the playoffs with all of their injuries.Last edited by gretzky99; 04-12-2010 at 12:44 AM.

Read what he says below Injuries galore. As some teams falter, some goalies crumple under pressure, and some come thru. Thank goodness for Jimmy.
Amen to that.

It has to be Tyler Myers IMO! Based on what he has done this year it is just amazing! The impact he performance had on Buffalo's success is a lot. So is Howard's but I don't think Howard should win. A worthy #2. Duchene winds up #3. Rask is #4.

I hope its anyone but Howard! He started in 05-06 whether or not he played a lot i don't care! He has way more experience than Duchene and Myers do! This is there first year suiting up with there teams. I obviously want Duchene to get it but think Myers might deserve it a bit more. As long as Howard doesn't get it Im at least somewhat happy

So you just don't like the rule. Yeah he had a lot of experience in learning how to lose in the NHL. Think he won like 1 game out of those 9 starts.
If your worried about experience you might as well just give it to Matt D. as he has less experienc then them all as he was drafted later. You cannot just alter rules as you see fit due to experience but that my opinion. The best player should win. So no matter what Howard record was he should not win due to experience?

I'll argue that a little differently. Personally, I think that the voters should take into account every game that these players played in the NHL as a rookie. In Howard's case, that would include the starts he made from the time he was drafted until now. The award is supposed to go to best ROOKIE meaning best player of rookie status. To not give it to Howard because of experience would be dumb but to not give it to Howard because of bad performance in that prior experience would make sense.
I'm just going to say this outright, I think that Howard has been a phenomenal goalie and is certainly worthy of a shot at Calder. I just think that Myers is slightly more worthy.
