    Really, customs?

I use a pretty normal size bubble mailer to ship stuff. 8X4 size about. And I was told that to ship to Canada, I have to have a big enough bubble mailer, so they can see the whole customs form on one side. Instead of having it wrapped around, half and half. I couldn't believe this. Has anyone else heard of this? Either in US or Canada.

Totally untrue. Most of the packages I receive from the US have the Customs form folded half and half around the enveloppe.

Yeah have the time they fold mine over anyways, and if not they slap it on the back, and I use pretty small bubble mailers sometimes

It is true for me, they told me that they want to see the whole form on one side. I am not going to buy extra bubble mailers just for that, that's for sure.

I've run into this before at the little postal branch close to my house. I quit shipping packages of that variety from that location. If I go to the main branch, they have no problem with the customs sheet folding. I only have the problem with the big form and they have really relaxed what you need that for now anyways. The little form fits on #00 padded mailers and down to a 300-ct box.

Customs is 'understood' very well by very few postal employees which really doesn't surprise me.

I think I'll turn right, instead of left next time, and head do a different post office. I was even told that 8x4 is too small.

Looks like you got the one person who decided to be a tough nut to crack. I too suggest going somewhere else. It happens in Canada with different employees giving one story from another on shipping proceedures. If I know they are making un-necessary requests, I take the envelope back and go to another outlet.

This is 100% true. The big one for me is that when I ship a registered package to Canada, it can't have 'packaging' tape on it - it has to have their brown 'paper tape'. I've asked repeatedly where I can buy it and they don't know. One employee will 'fix' my tape job for me every time and she doesn't even mention it. Another employee will make me stand there and hold up the line while I remove even a single piece of packaging tape and then watch me as I use the brown tape to seal the envelope. Needless to say, I don't go over lunch if I'm shipping registered...
