Does a Beckett grading slab add to value?

I'm not big on graded cards. I think the slabs take away from the card itself (just my opinion). I know people pay extra for graded cards sometimes though.

I recently picked up a card I wanted that happened to be graded in the big Beckett slab and I'm contemplating removing it (it was graded 8.5).

What do you guys think? Is is worth it long term to keep it slabbed?

For me, I'm a big guy and when Handling my cards, sometimes I find a damage them. Not really bad or anything, but a dinged corner here and there. For me, I'm a Bruins fan, and my Bruins Current RC PC, are all slabbed. 1) they keep them clean and in place, and 2, down the road they values will go up. So I'm actually FOR slabbing!

Depends on the situation.

For example, you have say your Richards FW Auto, and it's graded 9.5, then I feel it adds value.

Or,

You have my Lee Stempniak Cup Rookie Printing Plate 1/1, graded 9, takes value away.

I'd just leave it in the slab, it offers protection, and as we know the Cup cards can get pretty dinged up, or rough around the edges. Leave it in the case

if you don't mind it, leave it in the slab for extra protection.

if you do mind, crack that baby open. you're not losing anything with an 8.5 grade. as a matter of fact, an ungraded copy would probably sell for more than an 8.5.

personally, the only slabs i have at home are all BGS 10 Pristine's and 1/1's. =)

Protection wise the slabs are good... Yeah alittle bulky at times but I take it like a champ knowing the card is well protected...Its also my thought process that Beckett Grading only adds "value" to the card because they are really the only premier powerhouse when it comes to pricing cards... So yeah of course they are going to shoot the prices higher for "Beckett Grading" in THEIR Publication.. Just a matter of opinion but its all about pushing as many services as possible

I really do not like the graded card slabs. For the majority of my collection there is pretty much nothing that will ever convince me to sell the cards so what value does the grade do for me? Grading is completely unimportant to my personal collecting habits and preferences. I'd never pay a premium for graded cards and I do not find the protection factor worthy of the money. The only factor of relevance to me would be authenticity on vintage items and even then I am slightly skeptical about the process.

You didn't say what the card was. If it's a Bobby Clarke RC (as an example) absolutly the 8.5 is adding to the value. If the card is from 1989, or newer, and 8.5 is a neutral value, at best, IMO.
