Question A thought about Superlative, would like some feedback

So I want people's opinions about Superlative. Obviously they come sealed like Ultimate so that there is a way to determine if the factory seal has been broken which could mean the card has been tampered with.

That said, if something that has already been widely documented as legitimate, (i.e. the Jumbo 1/1 type cards) would you feel it is alright to remove the card from the top loader to scan? Obviously these type cards allow that kind of access as opposed to Ultimate in their slabs.

I did it with Superlative I for a bunch of PC cards and they looked SO much nicer scanned up this way.

I figure if I am keeping them, who cares if they're out? Or if it is a card we have all confirmed the swatch on in an archive or something, again, who cares if the card is out for scanning?

    Thoughts?

I've been debating this one myself; with a 1/1 Emblem in my PC from the original Superlative. The toploader it's in has been cracked along the bottom since I bought it. I like things to be mint (including the seal) but obviously it's not mint with a crack in the top loader. I dunno though, maybe ITG will reseal them? Anyways...

Really since you're not planning on getting rid of the card it comes down to your personal taste. It's a 1/1, you know it's the real deal, and if you don't plan on selling or trading; that's all that matters, right? And you've done it before; so even just for the sake of continuity.

If it were me, I'd leave it in. Especially since it's just for scanning purposes. If the holder was damaged it'd be another story.

I am with you 100%. I had two severely damaged top loaders from my huge Superlative 1 break and I decided to remove the cards and store them in a one touch magnetic holders.
I also like the way they scan better. What I do is, I scan them in the original ITG Holder, then free them and put them in a One touch. So I keep an archive of scans of them in the original ITG Top Loaders.
I also think for better overall protecting and storing, I will do it with any superlative cards I keep. I doubt I would ever move any of my P.C Superlative cards. However since I mainly collect only 1/1's, I can't see losing value if I sell them out of the top loader but in a one touch with a scan of them in the original ITG Top Loader.... Do you agree?

Barrie, if something is to go in your PC the important thing is that YOU enjoy it. Are you going to yell at yourself for taking it out of the top loader? Didn't think so...Go nuts, it's all about enjoying your own cards :)

Right, I get that and I DO enjoy it as much as I can.

This is more a integrity issue Karine as obviously there are people that done some less than desirable things with regard to patches being altered.

My point is should any of the cards I remove ever be moved at some point, if I have archive documentation to confirm they are indeed the original swatches on said card, should it be a problem breaking them out and scanning them in all their beauty?

Are people THAT anal about a card sealed in a standard top loader you can buy at the local shop that is ONLY different in that it has a ITG sticker seal on the top?

Well, there will always be some anal people of course but I don't think that should deter you from enjoying your cards fully now. When it's time to move them (if that happens) i'm sure if you're honest with the people you're trading with/selling it wont be a problem. In any case, sometimes the ITG superlative sticker seal breaks on its own from time to time (like for my Roy Holy Grail card which was pack pulled so I know no one tempered with it...)

Personally, I know that if i was trading/buying from someone trustworthy a card for my PC i wouldnt care about the seal. If you keep evidence that it was the way it was when you broke the seal, you're just taking an extra precaution which can only be a good thing should you deal with someone who doesn't know that you are trustworthy :)

I would echo what other people have said. If it's stuff for yourself, or for your son... store it how you like to store it. I don't see the big deal.

Saying that - you're right. 5 years from now some may question the legitimacy of the card, if you did decide to move it. Before and after photos of you cracking the seal might be a good way to document what you've done..... protect the legitimacy of the card, but still allow you to store / display it how you like best.

My Price Superlative GU from the first release is in a regular toploader now - I don't suspect anybody is going to accuse it of being a fake given that it's all-white material.

I'm happy to have the cards with or without the original ITG seal.
