Seguin or Hall?
BY: Adam Steevens
Most of us are focused on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the NHL draft is just around the corner (you can check out our own mock drafts here) , but the first pick is an absolute toss-up between Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. There really hasn’t been any discussion about who was getting drafted first for the last two seasons, with John Tavares and Steven Stamkos both standing well above the rest of their respective classes. The Edmonton Oilers have drawn the first overall pick in the 2010 Draft, and Kevin Lowe is faced with the daunting task of choosing between the two.

It has to be Taylor Hall IMO. Look what he is doing in the Memorial Cup. Either way though you get an amazing talent that is going to jump straight to the NHL and make a impact right away. Boston has the easier job though. Just pick the player who is left. Easy decision for them.

I think it really depends on who Kevin Lowe believes can make his team better, not just who the better player is. Hall is a tremendous talent, but Seguin's playmaking ability can make everyone on the Oilers just that much better. And with a team of under acheivers (IE: Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano, Ales Hemsky), maybe Seguin will make these players actually live up to their potiential.
There's that, and I'm a Bruins fan and Want Hall's Scoring Ability!

As a season seat holder, I am expecting Tambellini...not Lowe...to make the right decision and pick Taylor Hall.
I think he would be the perfect compliment to Eberle and his impact to the team would be immediate.
No disrespect to Seguin, but he is not NHL ready in my view, but he has the potential to be a franchise center.

Honestly this was NEVER even close to me. Taylor Hall has been the guy who was going to go #1 since last years draft ended. It will be the same thing as last year with Tavares, Hedman, and duchene. Tavares was projected #1 for a long time and Hedman and Duchene made pushes but Tavares went #1 overall. Same this year. Seguin made a push this year but Hall will go #1. Guaranteed.

First of all have to agree with one of the previous posts. Tambellini will be the guy picking and not Lowe. Lowe is nothing more than a figure head of the glory years just to keep the traditionalists happy. The only thing Lowe picks these days are the doilies at the year end dinner (if he's lucky). I live in Edmonton and have a well to do neighbor whom vacations with one of the Red Wing scouts. Apparently rumor has it that both of the player agents have expressed to Edmonton the desire for thier clients to play for an immediate cup contender (They have already approached Detroit). Both Hall and Seguin are playing the political game for the media, however the agents are looking to move thier clients away for a bonafide superstar. Edmonton is actually shopping the idea because of recent years negative press (Peca, Pronger, Nylander and now Souray not wanting to be here) If the Hall or Seguin situation becomes public, management will have the ultimate failure (unable to procure a draft willing to play in the city of "champions") therefore they are trying to make the move and look like geniuses. Unfortunately nobody wants to play here. Thus they are not having success. They ultimately will take Hall as he is physically NHL ready and has played with Eberle before (they get along well) Seguin is younger and could benefit from gaining about 10pnds of muscle. Noneheless if the Oilers make the "move" I will look like a genius. If they do not what can I say I'm a sucker for gossip. Either way these types of rumors make us hockey geeks live and breathe the game as we were too uncoordinated and out of shape to play it ourselves. Stay Tuned.

Sorry but I HIGHLY doubt Edmonton even contemplated trading the pick.

ummm lowe is no longer gm. and IMO it will be seguin. Seguin because he plays on a team with crap players where Hall plays on a team with amazing players. unlesss the Oilers are going to get better players in the off-season then go with Hall but with the player we have know it won't work with Hall. and also Eberle coming up aswell(can't wait to get his jersey).
