    2005-06 Ultimate Collection

Hey folks ... do you think it's worth grabbing a box of 2005-06 Ultimate Collection? I wasn't an active collector back then, so I'm not as familiar with the product. My LCS has a couple in stock. Is it a good investment? I'd love to hear some thoughts.

(The boxes are 399 no tax, FYI.)

No, I'd stay away. You're only paying for the potential of getting Crosby or Ovy in there. Only do it if you've got money to burn.

I agree, you are better off getting a Crosby or Ovie RC from eBay.

Thanks for the heads-up! Is this pretty much true for every high-end product from that year? Or are there any, in your estimation, that are actually worth the price?

Depends on the price. There was more than just the Ovy and Crosby in terms of solid cards. That rookie crop was very solid.

I'd say it is true for any high-end product beside the low-end ones. Like Series 2 is a great buy, MVP, Ultra. That is about it.

But $400 to get a Jeff Carter AU RC? Or Vanek? Ward? I don't think any are worth more than $40 beside the obvious two.

So going for, say, five boxes of UD Series 2 at 80 a pop rather than an Ultimate Collection box would be a more prudent move?

Anything from that year is overpriced along with 06-07 SP Authentic because those are the rookie years of Crosby and Ovy. Yes, that year had a pretty deep crop of talent, but the price inflation is strictly inflated due to Crosby and Ovy being present. Just an FYI, I saw an Ovy Ultimate RC on ebay with a BIN/OBO of $450 about a month ago. Not sure if it's still there. You could probably haggle that down to $400 which is the price of the Ultimate box, and there you go. Or, there are a couple of Crosby Ultimate RC graded BGS 9 with BIN/OBO $1100.
