Exactly
. Buy/trade from canadian sellers/traders, no customs and it is faster (Xpresspost in 2-3 business days). Card shows are another good option!

Everyone has said it already but it is the buyers' responsibility. I have only got hit with them once though and that was on a 3 tin case of 07/08 The Cup. Luckily the way the seller declared the value was $330 x 3 or something. Got charged around $35 instead of probably around $100.

thanks for the input guys. only thing im angry about is that he put 32 cards in a big box that was unnecessary, but either way, appreciated all!

I highly doubt it matters if it's in a box or in a bubble mailer. If it's over a certain value, you're going to get nicked. For the new traders out there reading this thread, just a suggestion: use only US Postal Service or Canada Post! FedEx and UPS charges obscene amounts of brokerage fees. Example: $44CAD brokerage fee for a $100 insured package with UPS, whereas USPS or Canada Post is free.

They charge 5$ to act as the broker, its a flat fee rather than the % of declared value that UPS charges. Nothing is free these days it seems.
If you aren't assessed taxes at customs then its just regular mail, so then its "free" to go through customs.

I should state that the $44 I had to pay included taxes. This is for a $100 insured declared value. Canada Post - at least - allows you $100 insurance free with their prepaid expresspost service. You don't have to declare the value therefore it passes through customs just fine. And no brokerage fees either.

I have never paid customs fees on anything I bought from eBay. (*knock on wood*)
