Great idea but it'd take actual effort and people that actually care. That being said, UD will never do it. ITG might but I doubt it

I agree a system like this is pretty difficult to put in place, this hobby is pretty artisanal.

my thought is, they have jerseys pre cut up.
the pieces are all random, so they them selves could not verify
    the patch too a grid.
a patch may be cut into xxx amounts, but I am sure they take other
patches from the same jersey & then possibly multiple jerseys,
or scraps of a teammates jersey to make the number that they need for
    the specific card in question.

This was my thoughts when the redemptions were happening for a players jersey, they were used for a teammates card production and had no others
    available to use.

possibly why a very limited card 1/5 can have a single color swatch at sometimes.
and a #157/330 patch has 4 colors on it.
I think its just luck of the draw, what goes where.

Ya I'm serious and im not picking on you maybe YOU should stop picking on upper deck. hahahaha its so hipacritacal

Unfortunately, if you wanted to collect rookies or parallels of rookies for the past few years, you really didn't have a choice other than to collect UD. Are collectors not allowed to collect what they so choose too and still have a few questions or concerns about UD and their products? It's cool that you like UD and maybe you haven't ever had a problem with them, but A LOT of others have. It's really ok to still collect them and have issues with thier product. I'm choked at them for a few reasons and also have never picked up an ITG card for quite some time, as I mainly collect rookies, so for me the past few years it's Ud for me as well.

It's OK......it's not (to quote you) that "hipacritacal" to collect UD cards and still have a few concerns about them, it's just annoying having you hi-jack a thread and go after someone when it's completely unecessary.

    Oh yeah....

Look, most people on here know I pretty much hate UD yet when I was collecting, I was still picking up cards from them. As with deankal I collected rookies mostly and so I picked up UD cards.

Here's a hypothetical for you: A person is mad at BP for the oil spill yet they have the only gas station in town. Are you going to not buy gas from them just because you are mad?

It's the same thing with UD. For years they have had the only RCs in the market and some people love to collect rookies but hate UD. They are obviously going to have to collect the UD rookies still.

    Rich,

A great idea in theory but the time and money the company would have to pony up seems to make this idea not feasible in the long term. I assume you would want it done for all patch products?

MY question to all is why not just be happy with Gomaz did with The Cup as the company like UD, ITG or Panini could let the members of various sites video this all for them for reference. He did it on his time and that cost the company nothing. I am sure this is more beneficial to the hobby as it builds the bridge between the hobbyists who do the cataloging and get the information out better than any company would due to time, manpower, and time spent on hobby boards. We the hobbyists are here 24/7 not the manufacturers.

What makes anyone think ITG is all legit? Its probably from suitcases and old towels.

Well knowing friends of agents and that they have to get in touch with Itg, UD, for auto's and such. I doubt it all suitcases etc.

Have any proof or facts to share about your suitcases and towels. I love to hear it?

I think you just have issues with ITG and would never do them a good deed even if it was the right thing. To each their own.

Ya I was thinking that myself

So what your beef with ITG.

Unfortunately Don, what Jeremy did was an amazing one-off thing that won't be repeated for lower-end products and I don't know if he intends to do it again this year. 08-09 The Cup is still heavily faked on the secondary market and only a fraction of collectors are aware of his work and the database. If a person isn't a member of SCF or HI they're not going to have access to that source of information, and thus they'd be vulnerable to falling for the scam of faked patch cards on eBay or at card shows. The proposed database give all collectors access to a source to verify their cards, as well as potentially giving them a story behind the jersey.
