Really? Bad call right here folks...
Well I first put this post on Clouts'N'Chara, but then thought, "why not SCF too!"
Well yesterday I got my first game misconduct. It was my second to last game of the season which sucked that I couldn't play in the final game today. Now, I don't think I deserved such a punishment for what I did. I usually don't care about bad calls on me and don't complain. I didn't even on this one, I was just pretty annoyed by it. What happened was we took a face off, and the puck was barely won by the opposing team. Me being a left winger, I quickly got the puck and went down the ice, switched to the right wing. I made a move around the first defender, and I was on my way to a 1 on 1 opportunity.. well which was what I thought. The defender I had just got passed hacked at my skated and I tripped. I fell down first so he fell into me. As we were getting up, (I still was focusing on the puck) He jumped on top of me with both legs like you would a horse and pushed down very hard. The opposing team touched the puck, and he got off of me. I was very frustrated, got up, and I skated over to him and got in his face trash talking. As it is for Bantam AA, we wear cages, or a visor plus a cage in my case. My visor clanked his cage, because he was shorter then me and I wanted to let him know I wasn't happy about what he just did. Now, I know you can't headbutt people of course! But this was like what the Red Wings do to Osgood after a win! I got a major and a game misconduct, which caused me to miss the last game of the season. The ref explained to my coach that I made contact with the other players head which was "an attempt to harm". There was no attempt of harm and I don't know what he was thinking. So it had nothing to do with my trash talking but the contact I had with the other players head when I looked down at him. Even the other parents on the other team came up to me today and told me that was a horrible call and I should have been playing today. I just wanted to share this with you guys and to hear your opinions.Last edited by Oviefan5252; 01-08-2011 at 10:23 PM.

Your fault. You control your own body and no one else. Yeah it seems it may be weak because you didnt full on headbutt them but the ref was doing his job. No need to get right in the guys face to talk trash. He has ears. You have a mouth. They don't have to be right next to each other to work.
Oh...and FYI....the best revenge you can get after something like that is scoring. Yeah talk trash but if you wanna shut the dude up and make him mad, you gotta score

Me scoring was what made him do what he did.. and I was thinking I would get unsportsmanlike but not a game misconduct. I think in the rulebook too it says you have to hurt the other player to get that. To me that was not the right judgement. I should have gotten a double minor for attempting a headbutt. WHICH, I had no intention of doing.Last edited by Oviefan5252; 06-07-2010 at 12:13 AM.

You hit his head with yours - thats a headbutt. doesn't matter if its minor or not, the refs can call it. It's just like in baseball if you barely touch the ump you get thrown out. It could be an accident but it doesn't matter because they can still call you for it and in your case, they did

I'm not familiar with baseball, but I bet in that rulebook it doesn't mention what level it is at. So basically you touch him and you are thrown out, which is what you are saying. Here a game misconduct should only be if I cause an injury to the other player. The rules say:
HEADBUTTS:
Double Minor - attempt a headbutt
Major - you connect with a headbutt
Major and Game Misconduct - headbutted player is injured
So from what you just wrote, I should have gotten a major. I respect your opinion and I am trying to defend mine.

As somebody who as actually played hockey his entire life, I'll give you my opinion on this.
No, it was not fair for you to get a major and a game misconduct. To be completely honest, I'm shocked that they are so strict. I've gotten in player's faces multiple times if they take a run at a player on my team, or something similar and have never gotten even a minor penalty. The ref will usually tell us to break it up, and that's it.
However, before I go any further, I have an important question for you. Is the team you are playing on for under 18 year olds?

in 22 years of playing, I've never heard of anyone getting a call for a 'headbutt'. I've seen headbutts, I've seen penalties called..... but a situation like you're describing - I would have called that unsportsmanlike, maybe roughing.
It sounds to me like it was too harsh, but it's hard to say without seeing it.... and knowing how your league is refed.

Are you trying to say that I have not played hockey? Because I've watched since I was two, played ice since I was 5, and played roller since I was 12. I've been involved in hockey all my life. While yeah I think it might have been a bit much, the refs can make calls at their own digression and if they thought it was a headbutt, then you're going to get called for it and theres nothing to do about it.

I don't know why you would think he was aiming at you when he said that. He was saying that probrably so he can show he knows about hockey as well. Yes I understand what you are saying, but although I can't do anything about it I can still complain and share my story to hear your opinions.
