Im surprised how many people crack packs/boxes alone. I dont have any rituals really but pretty much every box I open is with friends in the hobby, usually at Dave & Adams. I think its more fun when you have your friends there to enjoy it with you. Id hate hiding away all by myself to crack my packs personally

it is funny how most of us like being alone when we open boxes..the reason why i like to be alone is 1- i don't have much time to myself..we have a small apartment and also take care of my mother..so after working 10 hr's a day then coming home and having my mother talk my ear off..because she has no one else to talk to..when all i want to do is unwind...so that's my little time to myself..
2- i feel sometimes that my wife thinks what i do is childish and a waste of money...so when i buy a box or a CASE!! lol..i hide it..yes i hide it..until i have the time to enjoy what i waited soooo long for in the mail...and when i get a big hit ( which isn't very often ) i look like the kid in the willy wonka and the chocolate factory that just found the golden ticket..( except i don't run home afterward..i'd probably pass out,lol)...

having a ritual isn't just about US..it should be enjoyed by others as well. the most important concept to grasp is trying to share that enjoyment with others. i have enjoyed reading all of everyones posts...I'll defintley try some of ya'lls rituals out if you don't mind. I should be getting some packs in the mail this week and this won't be the last time you hear form me...I have some collecting to do. If I ever become a Millionaire in the not so distant future, I would for sure buy some property and open up a hobby card store...and NOT charge people rediculious prices; b/c hockey fanatics shouldn't have to pay an " arm-and-a-leg" to experience the NHL. I know thats how those companies stay in business but its just not right/ethical. The only way to make this sport more popular is too make it AFFORDALE. Everyone on this forum is fair/ethical but what does everyone else think about the hockey card market??? I'm about to go to work and just wanted to vent a little bit...thanks for reading and ALL your replies are very welcome..thats why we have threads like this.

Can't say I have any rituals. I like having my friend Sam (bqaggie) around, as I've pulled some sweet cards with him watching/recording the break (SOTT Dual of Orr/Bourque, Prestigious Pairings of Ovechkin/Malkin, OPC Premier Rare Remnants Auto /5 of Crosby). But, I've also pulled some nice stuff on my own (Lemieux SOTT, Brodeur SOTT). I must say that it is much more fun with friends, though.
Here's hoping there are some sweet cards in the SP Authentic case headed my way. :)

I open boxes alone, in my office, at my cards desk (I have one for work, with a PC and Internet and one for cards, where I keep top loaders and other cards stuff). Put some music on.
Usually, I wait 'till week-end to bust boxes, even if they arrived early in the week.
I always put PC cards I pulled in penny sleeves and make a pile with them. I put bases in number order and all the rest (parallels, inserts, etc) in penny sleeves and in a third pile. Hits goes right into a top loader, in a fourth pile.
I like to take my time. The longer, the better!I collect the following:
- Vintage (Stars and RC)
- 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
- Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
- Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
- Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

I don't think you have to feel like you need to make excuses for breaking wax by yourself. Its a completely personal preference and your decision doesn't affect anyone else.

I make sure all my supplies are nearby, and then I break them with my wife (she enjoys the process almost as much as I do!)
On a side note, I think it should be mandatory for anyone opening high-end product to do so on camera, and then post the video on YouTube. Have you guys ever checked it out? It's a blast to watch, just to see the reactions of the guys doing the breaking. Some fun viewing, especially with high-end product.
