    Reds/Mets controversial call

Surprised this hasent been brought up. I guess the all star selections have over shadowed this story. I am confused a little as to how umps can overrule this call. I understand that a judgment call cannot be overruled except in certain situations. I thumbed through my mlb rule book and havent really found anything clear on this. Maybe someone with a clearer understanding on the rules can help.

I'd comment on it if I had any idea what happened/what you're talking about.

Haven't had on MLB Network at all today, so that's probably why.....interesting though.

Can't believe they overturned a judgement call--rule book states judgement calls can not be overturned.

Where did you read you can't overturn a judgment call? If the umpire who made the call asks for help and they discuss it and they see something he didn't they can overturn it.

Pretty much what I was saying when I said "except certain situations". Another umpire that did not make the call cannot offer help. Only the umpire that made the call can ask for help. I am wondeing if there are other situations that where they over turn calls or is this it. After seeing this it really makes me wonder why Jim Joyce didnt ask for help in Galarragas almost perfect game.

    MLB rulebook states that.

I figured after Galarraga's perfect-miss, everyone knew that rule?

This isn't true. An umpire can overturn his call after conversing with the other umpires and it happens from time to time in situations like the Rolen one.

Plays at the plate are a lot easier to ask for help on because sometimes you can be shielded by the catcher and not see what really happened. If you were to ask for help for calls at first base it would open a whole can of worms.

The umpires could have actually overturned the call in the Gallaraga game, but they didn't and let the call stand.
