    Baseball Players nicknames

I thought it would be fun to get peoples opinions on players nicknames. What are your favorites, which ones do you not like? Do you like nicknames of the past (The Hammer, Spinded Splinter, Shoeless Joe Jackson, etc.) or do you like the newer ones (A-Rod, I-Rod, J-Roll, etc.). I personally like the older ones. They seem to have a little more creativity to them. Some of the more modern nicknames I like are "The Rocket" and "The Flyin Hawaiian".

Two of my favorites as well. Not to mention Lou "Iron Horse" Gehrig and Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose. Another favorite but less known is Virgil "Fire" Trucks who threw 2 no-hitters in 1952.

I think one of the best current nicknames has to be Vlad "The Impaler" Guerrero.

Barry Zito gave him the name. He is heavy with a round face and head but really atheltic. Zito gave him the nickname after a play in Sept. 2008 against the Dodgers where he scored from 2nd base by jumping over the tag of catcher Danny Ardoin
