selling out when a player dies. right or wrong?
we see this everytime a player dies, people listing up every card they can find of him and getting tons of money for the cheapest base card. i used to think this was dead wrong(no pun intended) but ive been wondering recently. i mean if you could take a sure profit wouldnt you? what if you need the money can anyone fault you there? it seems sick to make money off from someones death like that but i want to get opinions of others. the reason i ask if the player i collect (ernie banks) is nearly 80 and obviously doesnt have as much time left as he used to. And i was thinking the other day about what to do when he dies. chances are i will just be getting out of college or a few years out of college with a young family and need the money either way. If i need the money for family i would sell regardless because family comes first but i was wondering what everyone thought on this subject. as i said i used to think it was wrong but im wondering if there are cicumstances where taking the huge profit is ok. id like to hear everyones opinion on this topic and please lets not turn this into a pissing match and keep it civil.

My opinions is there YOUR cards and you paid YOUR money for them so sell them whenever you want and dont listen to what anyone says. There will always be people who criticize what you do no matter what.

thats when the market spikes man so get rid of them, its all buissness after they die nobody is gonna care about them in our world

I say make the money when you can,we collect to flip cards and buy cards that fit our pc's so I see nothing wrong with capitalizing on a player's death.I've never sold a card due to a player's death but if I had an autograph of someone who doesn't sign often and he passed away that card would definitely be up for sale.

you guys are sort of hitting on what i was thinking to. i used to think it was wrong but like you guys said its when the market spikes and the price goes up. its like prospecting in a way. you hold the kids cards and then when the market spikes you sell sell sell.

Someone already said they are your cards, but if the player is PC and a Serious hard signer(ie: Reggie White), that would be the only time I would hold.....
But No way would I consider this Wrong to sell, Ecspecially if you have little interest in the player, Other than Respecting the fact that he passed(which Isn't a Bad thing at all, Respect is hard thing to get as players now

thats the part where it gets complicated for me. ive been collecting ernie banks for years and would have a hard time deciding wether to sell out and take the money or hold. i suppose i could sell out take 2-3 times what i payed for the stuff and then wait a couple weeks for the prices to drop and then pick it all up again and still have the extra money.

If it was cards I would probably sell, IP autos I would keep it. I got Nick Adenhart's auto as well as Napoli, Quinlan, Santana, Butcher, and 2 others on a ball about 2 weeks before he died, but I'm not going to sell it.
Would you guys consider it ethical or unethical if someone PC'd old HOFer's, old celebs, or players/celebs with wild lifestyles of drinking etc. to sell when they die?

thats a great question i was thinking about that also. its kind of like prospecting in a different way. i dont know if i could do that myself. i dont know if i could buy someone up with the intention of profiting off when they die. thats a tough question for me id be interested to see what others have to say about that as well.

I don't think I could either, but most of the players that die were/have been doing stupid things in their life and are just waiting for karma to kill them. It would be a really good profit, but benefiting off of someone's death doesn't seem like the right moral thing to do
