It's inderstandable Mike Modan doesn't want to rush decision

The text message from Mike Modano came in at 12:31 Saturday morning.

    "No closer. Sorry," it said.

Well, regarding Mike Babcock's prediction that it's "inevitable" that Modano will play for the Red Wings this season, inevitable is still a long way away.

I had asked Modano Friday if he was any closer to making a decision about playing next season, be it here or elsewhere, and clearly he is not. But you know what? That's OK. It's the middle of July. He doesn't need to be any closer to a decision right now.

    He should retire....as a Star....
He has won the Cup already...he is not in the same situation as Bourque or Robitaille where he wants to win one before he retires.....

I agree, he's done all he can. This will just drag his career to a halt

Can you blame the guy for not wanting to give up on what he's known for the last 20 years? He may not put up the numbers that he used to, but there is no doubt he would be a great asset in the locker room. Whatever decision he makes, I wish him the best.

With that said, I hope he retires as a Star. :)

I hope he retires as a Star. I have absolutely no interest in him coming to Detroit. We already have pieces for the future that we have to resign (Helm, Abs, Eaves). We can contend for the cup without Modano and sign our players...sounds like a better idea to me.

I agree - he probably can contribute...and I am sure its a hard decision but when you play with one team your whole career, sometimes you dont want to play anywhere else...
