    Interesting Note on Josh Gorges

Eric Engels remains one of the bright spots at HockeyBuzz, even if the comments threads are ridiculous...

Josh Gorges plays out a contract that pays him 1.1 mil/season. If Gorges continues to do all the things that have made him successful in Montreal, look to the deal that Rob Scuderi inked as a UFA last summer as a solid comparison for what Gorges figures to make. Scuderi got a 4-year deal at 3.4/season. Gorges is 5 years younger than Scuderi, but when his deal expires he'll still be a restricted free agent. If Gorges were set to hit the open market next summer he'd likely be looking at more, but like I said if he continues on this path look for the Canadiens to lock him up long-term for similar money to what Scuderi is making.

    Very interesting indeed.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

No, he won't. People are still too dumb to realize (author of article and not Rich) that to get free agents in LA, we have to overpay. We overpaid Scuds and that's why he came here. Gorges should get anywhere from $2m to $3m AT MOST. Somewhere in between is most likely.

You don't think that the Habs don't overpay for some free agents?

They do but I just can't see Gorges making 3.4 mill and if he does, I really think it's a mistake. I see him making anywhere from 2.7 to 2.8 really.

Haha has he actually been named captain? I could see him being their captain for sure but I haven't followed the Habs at all this offseason so not sure what they've been up to.

Not yet, but I'm still optimistic. IMO, it's either him or Gionta.
