Canada Gold Project
Hi all,
I have a Canadian flag at home and had an idea last night by using the TTM I could get the autos of the roster that won Gold at this Winter Olympics. Is this a feasble and realistic project?
Or would it be easier to purchase cards of each individual player in their Canadian jersey and have them sent off to be auto'd rather than the flag?
The people I think that could 'let my project down' are the likes of Crosby et al.
What do you guys think? I am open to suggestions and advice!
Thanks for reading.Last edited by stop__dreaming; 07-31-2010 at 06:40 AM.

If you find a way to get a hold of a TTM Crosby auto, please let me know. Thanks.

Well, I honestly wouldn't know because I haven't tried it. Sending the request to the Pittsburgh Penguins might be a good place to start though.

Ah, okay. Thought you were speaking from experience, lol.
Might try with the toughest first, so if it doesn't get returned then I haven't lost out on the autos I would have had at that point.
But I will let you know :)

As awesome as that project would be, I would say no go. Here's why:
Note that if you are sending items to be autographed by players, you must include a self-addressed stamped envelope. The team cannot be held responsible for the loss of any items sent in the mail. It is therefore recommended that you send a player card or photo, rather than items of significant value (i.e. hats, jerseys, flags, etc. will not be accepted due to their value). As well, please do note send an item for multiple players in a single envelope. Due to the high volume of autograph requests, the team cannot guarantee when your item will be returned.
You will see that set of text on pretty much every NHL team's Contact Us page.
An item of great value like that would be a devastating loss to you if it were not returned. Imagine having 17 signatures on it already, you send it in to Scott Neidermayer (no particular reason I'm picking his name), and it doesn't get signed and returned. That would be just an awful feeling, right?
Time is another factor - sometimes guys can return stuff within a few weeks, but sometimes it can be a few months. It would be a years-long project to send that flag to every Team Canada player.
I've done a few TTM items and it is always something that I wouldn't be too broken up over if it wasn't returned. I would say that the individual cards would be your best option. Don't pick a high-end RC or anything major - base cards or inserts would be the best way to go. A GU is also cool - I got a Shea Weber IP auto on an SPx Winning Materials card and it looks totally sweet. 8x10s are also sweet, but they do take up more space - I still haven't found a wall spot for my lovely Iginla that he signed for me TTM last summer.
Whatever you end up deciding to do, good luck! It's a great project!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

For the same reasons as Richard I would say it's a no go.... However, how big is your Canada flag? Because what you could do is make yourself a display with the flag in the middle and an autograph card of each of the players around it? Places like hobbycraft in the UK sell bid deep frames that can be used for projects like that...

You guys do have a really good point. It would be soul destroying having all those autos and hard work for it to get lost or not even returned, lol.
I'll just keep the flag and think of something else. I do want a project along these lines though :)

Why not go for a hard-signed auto set? Most of those guys sign pretty regularly, as they're always in demand. For the younger guys, maybe SP Authentic RCs or SOTTs? Of the entire roster, really only Crosby is a guy that will make you break the bank. For Luongo you'll likely have to get an ITG auto if you go that route because he doesn't sign a ton for UD, or you could get something from 05-06 when he did sign in SP Authentic.

Yeah it's nice to have a special theme project from time to time, took me a bit of time to put my Québec frame together but I really like it, it's got the Donruss Les Gardiens Set in it, the ITG Battle of Québec set, 3 mini jerseys from Habs and Nords (use to be Avs before i got the Nords one) and a Québec mini flag. It was a lot of fun to put together :)
