eBay store idea
I was just curious as to how much that an eBay store would be to operate. Holy crap is all that I will say. How do sellers do it? The fees are just through the roof.
So you have two main options:
Basic which is $15.95 a month and it costs $0.20 to list a card a month.
or
Premium which is $49.95 a month and it costs $0.05 to list a card a month.
So I figured it out that if you list 240 cards or more a month that the Premium is actually the better deal. 240 is the break even number. I actually love looking through hockey card sellers feedback when they have 10,000 plus feedback and they manage to sell like common jersey cards for $8.00 and up each. It is just crazy. I have always wanted to do that but your inventory would have to be massive to cover the monthly fees.
So fast forward to now. I get thinking that it would be worth it to go and get a group of people together and share a store. If we could get a group of even just ten people together to jointly share a store it would only be like $5.00 each a month. Now I know that the idea has a lot of potential holes in it but i was just throwing the idea out there. We would have to create a new eBay account and we would all have to know the log in and password and we would have to create an email account and password as well.
I was just throwing the idea out there and even seeing if anyone else would be interested. It is a cheap and easy way to have a store. What do you other people think of the idea?

While I like the idea, you really have to trust the people you do it with, especially with the money involved as it would have to be 1 paypal account signed up. You don't want people stealing other's money, not saying people would do that, but it's stuff where you'd really want to make sure you knew the people.

What is the overall advantage of having a store? Does that ixnay the post-sale fees from the equation? Is that the biggest thing? Also, are the list charges like insertion fees, a one-time deal, or are they recurring fees per card that is in your store at the start of each month?

I was under the assumption after I looked at the pricing that all you're getting is discounted listing fees. The sale fees and everything else is basically the same unless you're a huge high seller.

We are working on a alternative that should be much more afordable for our member. I have been coding a in House Storefront completly coded from scratch. It almost finish and we are testing the transaction process.
It will be unlimited free listing and the only cost will be final sale and a basic transaction fee. So member will be able to list all the cards they want at no cost. Only if sales happen will their be a charge.
With the large member base we have, we hope it will fill a gap to approaching selling cards. I know I will list many of my cards I have. Also we have ton of feature for big seller as well. I made it so it can please as much person as possible.
Version 1 will be out this automn and it's only a begining. Also a free inventory module come with the storefront and also support image.

All store item and all inventory item allow one image per card. The store might see this change later but it fee every where to upload a image.
The inventory lets you see the image only if you wish with 4 level of zoom. So you can see like 10 thunbnail per row then zoom to 5 images per row then zoom to 2 image per row and then zoom to one images per row.
So I could navigate either your store or your inventory just by looking at the image and text description come if you put your mouse over the image and who is thge owner.
We actually have thre view everywhere. text with image (thumbnail), text list only for those with slow connection and a image only view.
If the image is too big it will be resized to I beleive 600 pixel witdth and we create a thumbnail. We also use the same way to look at image that simply appear over the currrent windows you are browsing.
Here how you see the image only section, it could be the main inventories or the stores from all member or specific store of a member. All view are the same all over. Here we see the iventory section and I selected to only show card that have serial. I could also specify Rookie only etc...

Now the same page but with zoom level 2

Zoom level 3

Zoom level 4
