How do you store your player collection?
I was wondering how everyone keeps their PCs stored. Right now for my Thorntons I have everything in penny sleeve and top loaders and the thicker cards in 1 touch holders. Then I put everything in a big 5000 count box.
I was wondering how everyone else does it to see if it is more efficient. Would especially like to hear from player collectors that have over 500 cards but even if you dont have that many please feel free to comment.
lmk guys

i made a shelf out of i think of about 8 hockey sticks, and 2 brackets from ikea... i have put my better cards on my shelf and then the rest in a box with penny sleeves and top loaders and the odd one with a 1 touch... but most of the ones on my shelf are one touch magnetic cases... With the brackets i bought they also came with a hook on the bottom so i can hang my Mueller jersey from it :).... lmk if you want a picture.. or describe it better... or nothing at all

Mine is over 500 :)
All the base, inserts, parallels, & stickers (mostly 1990s stuff) is in a binder.
All the Autos & GU cards, plus some of the rarer parallels, are in penny sleeve / top loaders.... or one touches (all in a box).
Magazines, 8x10s, other odd ball items - I have binder sheets (and a seperate binder) for them too.

All of my Irbes, apart from the slabbed stuff, are in a binder. I don't like to put stuff in boxes, because I've noticed that over time...even in the correctly sized top-loader, memorabilia cards tend to curl if placed inside the box with pressure from the cards in front and behind. I've seen it at card shops, I've seen it at card shows, and I've even seen it from some of my cards I keep in a box. It is easy to fix, but a pain nonetheless.

ok now another question to the binder users. Do you keep the cards in a specific order or is it just whatever because leaving blank spots for my Thorntons will be tough as he has close to 3000 cards...

I get used military ammo cans in .30 cal. They fit slabs perfect and are water tight. I live in Seattle and rain/humidity is a concern.

Irbe has 834 officialy released cards. I divide my binder into sections. Section A is anything non-NHL, non GU or AU. For example anything all-star, Soviet or Latvian goes there.
The next section is San Jose Sharks. Everything base, and non #d insert goes there. When rainbows are completed, they go together as spots are re-arranged. Same goes for the Dallas Stars section, the Vancouver Canucks section, and the Carolina Hurricanes section.
The next section is for expo cards. All expo cards are grouped together by the brand they represent.
The next section is serial #d cards. Again, rainbows are organized together, but until those are complete, they are put into the section wherever they fit.
The next section is AU, again rainbows put together, outliers separate from the complete stuff.
The final section is GU. Because Irbe only has 54 different GU cards, I have arranged them by year, with blank spots representing the cards I still need. Slabbed cards are kept separate due to their size, but they are never far from the collection.
Once I complete a year, say 1998-99, I put all of the base and non#d inserts from that year together, the #d inserts together in their respective section, the AUs in their section, etc.

These are old stats from my personal site and I am missing many cards and probably missing 300 roy cards, maybe 50 Price too. I stop managing my inventory last year since I put all the time I have in SCF new inventory and storefront application, coding it.
So there you have 2,406 items. I store them in penny sleeve, toploader and bigger one I had a team bag. I don't use one touch. Then I store them in box of 3200 since I realise that you can fill all the rows and it fits. The 5000 ones you need to leave a row open or else the cards with top loader will be too tight. So I use 2 box and they are filled. I also have 2 X 3200 boxes for my traders.
All high end are stores in my bank vault I rent from them. More safe there.

Jaroslav Halak (PC)

Other
You have 1802 cards for a total of $ 10,925.90
Your total collections
You have 2,406 cards for a total of $ 28,642.35
In the other section, they are all habs cards I collect mainly from HOF.
I only have my vintage in binder, Box are more safe storage as you play less with them to move them around. I stored then by player, year, cardset name, card number. The order follow my inventory list sorted by those. Then If I have a image for each I can use the inventory and sort them by the visual only. This way I know if I am getting close to the card and move lees card just trying to find a card.
Binder can be fun but I found out that card box is better, I screw up many corner trying to fit them in binder on the nine card sheet, The thing is you are tempted to reorganise them to show them. This is where you up the risk of bending a corner. Now if I pull a pack of Pirce I can have them in my hand, toploader don't take to much place, you can ook at them like you do with card that have no protection and I like this better then binder. ALso binder can let some light pass true. Lets dust get in, then you want to clean them after a few year and the dust may get into the pocket on the page. The box prevent light and dust. When it come to card preservation in mint condition those factor should not be ignored. You can still show case some and I do. I have a 36" X 36 " showcase where you can put 50 + cards. Just prefer today the boxes but still have 1969-1989 in binders. Doubles in boxes.
I have no PC in bindersLast edited by CoolHandLuke; 09-04-2010 at 01:33 AM.
