What do you consider to be inserts?

I was organizing cards and I always like to pull the inserts, penny sleeve, top loader and in the box. I kinda came across a dilema when it came to older cards. Cards like the All Star cards or Team leaders or even team picture cards, do you guys consider them to be inserts as well or does inserts only apply to the glitzy cards from the 90's through today?

Most older cards were a part of the set, the insert wave came in the 90's for the most part.

exactly, If it's not part of the regular numbering (1-???) it's an insert.

It's already been covered, but "not part of the set 1-???"

If the set is numbered 1-500 and All Star cards are part of that numbering, then they are NOT inserts.

If there is a set.... 1-500..... and then there are also 20 insert cards numberd AS1, AS2.... AS20 (for example) then they WOULD be inserts.

An insert is a non-autographed, non-memorabilia card that is not part of the base set and has a specific seeding frequency, be 1:1 packs or 1:288 packs.
