Doughty Out at Least a Week
Not sure if anyone saw the hit but Doughty mysteriously disappeared from the game last night at the end of the first period and didn't come back for the rest of the game.
He is out with the dreaded "upper body injury" but it sure sounds like a concussion. DL said he'll be out at least a week. To me it sounds like a relatively minor concussion and I think the Kings are doing the right thing to give Doughty some time off.
The bummer is that the Kings has 7 games in 11 days including a 5 game road trip that starts tonight.
My guess is that Doughty stays in LA and when they get back home he'll be ready to go. I won't be disappointed if he joins them on the road trip at some point, but if he only misses a few games everything will be OK.
The good news is Greene is about ready to come back into the lineup and he'll slot in with Drewiske and Muzzin will probably play with Mitchell.
By the way, I do think Cole deserves a 2-3 game suspension as the hit was very similar to the one Doan was suspended for last week.
Hopefully the Kings can battle through this and win some close games on the road as they are off to a great start.

I watched a bit of the game and they said doughty went to the dressing room but they didn't say why. Thanks for the update.

Not worried at all.
Doughty will be fine and the Kings can win all 5 on the road.
Yup, I said it.

no one is saying if it's a concussion but that is what the speculation is. Scuderi said after the game that Doughty was walking around and talking to guys so it doesn't sound like it was a major concussion. hopefully it's similar to the Franzen hit and he can play within the week or so.

i watched the game and it looked as if both doughty and cole where initiating the hit and dont see where one could or should be suspended over the other one...the hit looked odd and out of place...so ill reserve my opinion until more is revealed

I haven't seen this hit, but have heard about the concussions caused this season already. I thought the padding was increased by 5% by the NHL to, hopefully, reduce this?

i understand why the NHL didn't suspend as you can make the argument that Cole didn't "target the head" and seeing it again it wasn't quite as bad as the Doan hit. but i do think Cole went out of his way to hit Doughty (look how far he came to hit him) and deserved an interference penalty at least.
it sucks that a hit like that takes out one of the best young players in the NHL.

honestly ive seen a different view of the hit and it looked as if cole was turning once the puck passed him and then doughty turns towards cole and the rest is history.....but its pretty evident that both players were aware of the hit coming right before the hit....i would much rather hear from both players and their thoughts on the hit...cole isnt the kind of player to make dirty hits..one of the last guys i would think of in those terms....hopefully doughty comes back soon and isnt affected by this long term.. good luck to the kings for the rest of the season and a speedy recovery to doughty

totally agree that Cole isn't a dirty player - after all he has been through it would be surprising if it was intentional. it may just be that he braced for it better than Doughty did.
