Briere Gets 3 Games For Cross-Check to Head
Late in the Flyers 6-1 blowout of the Isles last night, Briere cross-checked Frans Nielsen right in the head. It's been announced that he's going to have a disciplinary hearing via conference call with the NHL tomorrow morning.

Any guesses on a suspension? I say 2 games.
*Update* 3 games, per TSN.Last edited by RGM81; 11-01-2010 at 11:33 AM.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'd give him 4 or 5 for that. It was a pretty obvious hit to the head.

agreed, I say about 5 games. Here is the leagues chance to prove what a stick to the head is worth.
I have to say that Briere is a real chicken to not even stand up to Dipietro when he challenged him. I guess he learned that from Pronger, hit him with a cheap shot and skate away.Last edited by RGM81; 11-01-2010 at 08:03 AM.

The League has had many opportunities to make a statement that hits to the head will not be tolerated, and they've yet to seize them. I doubt that they make an example out of Briere.

I expect a suspension of a game or 2 at this point because he did get him in the helmet there, but the only reason the hit was near the head was because of the way the stick came up off the shoulder pad. Anyone who says it was an intentional hit to the head is just showing their bias against the flyers and not actually watching the game.
Was there intent to crosscheck, absolutely; before the faceoff you can see Neilson getting in his face and saying something to get things started. And that's after Gillies took a shot to Briere after the whistle a few minutes earlier.
I love how the Flyers are always the goons, but everyone forgets about the nonsense the Islanders were pulling because they got smoked in this game. The Islanders had 73 penalty minutes in this game and it's not because the Flyers are goons (trevor gillies an NHL player, seriously?)

Teams get smoked and then get mad all the time and try to "get physical". The islanders didnt cross check anyone to the head or do anything to get suspended.. the flyers did.. therefor Flyers= goons. Any smart player would just let them talk crap and skate away.. or at least just drop the gloves with him. Not cross check him to the head after a faceoff lol.

Sure the Islanders got beat, but why cross check somebody up high like that? He went up high intentionally. Briere is a repeat offender when it comes to this, he got suspended 2 games a couple of seasons ago for the same incident.
