    paypal dispute SNAD

I received a card today that i bought on ebay on october 8th from canada..the package and card were both damaged...i asked the seller to send the card in a magnetic holder and of course he didnt....so i open a claim and now i have to provide tracking to return the card according to paypal....is this really the case??? so i have to spend $18 postage to return a card i paid $29 for to get my refund...how does that make sense has anybody gone through this before??? and FYI i live in the US and seller lives in canada

You do have to send back with tracking, otherwise the seller can claim they never got it. Unfortunately that's how it goes. Cheapest you can probably send it back for is $14 dollars registered.

so a seller can poorly package a card allowing it to be damaged in shipping and I have to pay that much for shipping to provide tracking....i might as well cancel the claim and leave a negative

Honestly, probably. That's the problem with ebay sometimes, it can be a bit of a gamble. Keep the card and maybe it can still have a spot in your collection and ding him with the negative.

One other thing you can try is contact the seller and see if he's willing to split the costs with you to ship back. I'm not sure if blackmailing him will help, but it's another option lol...

Have you contacted the seller to see if they will refund your money? Maybe they will work with you. If not, they deserve a negative.

Otherwise, you are out of luck. Keep in mind, that BUYERS normally exploit this flaw to scam people across borders. If auctions are sent without proof of delivery, the buyer claims the item was never received and ends up getting the card and a refund. It is just one of the risks with doing business internationally.

It isn't really an ebay/paypal problem. They need to have something to confirm delivery/receipt as an aid to help settle disputes. Unfortunately for most collectors, the price tag of registered shipping makes it hard to swallow when compared to the value of items we are often sending. No one wants to buy a $.99 card and then pay $14 for shipping.

Whether buying or selling on ebay, you are always dependant on the other party being fairly honest and decent. Unfortunately that isn't alway the case. In a dispute, ebay/paypal are in the middle trying to figure out who is right. Their policies for settling disputes should be read and understood before you start to do business. After you've read the policy, its up to you to decide if it is worth the gamble to send/recieve items without some sort of delivery confirmation.

the problem is i put the item into dispute...and the seller then put it into a claim...thus the requirement for tracking...if he hadnt escalated to a claim he could have refunded me and i sent the item back but he's trying to be hard about it....so he just got a negative. thanks for your input fellas

This is why I just can not wait for the store on this site to start. We are dealing with great people and it will work much, much, much better for sellers. Plus lower selling costs.
