Goalie Controversy in St. Louis?
Ty Conklin posted a shutout last night. He now has blanked the opposition in half of his starts and has a sparkling 0.96 GAA.
Meanwhile, Jaroslav Halak has struggled, posting a shutout in only 1 in every 3 starts. His GAA is a massive 1.46.
Conklin supporters are screaming that he get more playing time, and that Halak has simply had the #1 role handed to him because of the trade and the big contract.
Nah, I'm just kidding. The Blues are off to a phenomenal start and both of their goaltenders have been great. Kudos to them both, and may they continue to enjoy success up until one night in mid-March.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

You know Rich, I was one of the people who thought Halak would not be that great for St Louis.
Well I was wrong LOL. Now to see how long they will perform that well? They arent scoring many goals.

They certainly do have a 'great problem' when it comes to picking who plays.
Having a superb goalie tandem is a massive key to success.
Hoping we have the same in a couple of years when Joacim Eriksson comes over from Sweden (rated the second best Swedish goalie prospect after Markstrom) and Bob has had a couple of years experience in the NHL.

St. Louis is off to a pretty hot start, I can't imagine that it keeps up that long. Go Wings!

Not surprised to Halak off to the great start.
When St. Louis needs to be concerned is when he gets into 60+ games.... will he still be able to keep this up. (Last year's 45 Regular Season GP was a career high for him). Not saying he won't be fine..... but that's what the real question (for me) was with him. Can he play like this as a true number one, and not just being the better of the two in a platoon situation.
As for Conklin, well.... doesn't matter who you are. With enough oppertunities, you're bound to be successful for small stretches at some point. Good for him, I guess..... but if St. Louis has visions of a strong season - they better hope that Halak doesn't get hurt.

St Louis seems to have that "defense first" mindset like the Predators. The Predators have been able to produce some quality goaltenders over their franchise history (even Mason isn't that bad)
Nashville has always lacked scoring but has made the playoffs every year since their induction into the league except for 2 (I believe...)
St Louis just needs to keep it tight in the defensive zone and relieving pressure of Halak/Conklin. If they can do that, and have their top 2 or so lines get a couple goals, they can easily make the playoffs much like the Preds.
It's nice to see St Louis have a strong team again (so far...)

Congrats to Conklin on the shutout last night! Petro, EJ, and the rest of the D are playing great! However, scoring and the powerplay need to improve in order to keep this success going.I wouldn't be surprised if the Blues made a move at the deadline to help increase their scoring.
Go Blues!
