ITG - Game Used or not Game Used

Has anyone ever questioned ITG on whether a 'game used' item was actually used by that player and had a response?

With the recent newsletter issued by Dr Price regarding Niittymaki, am having doubts on certain cards.

Personally, I don't have any questions about the legitamcy of their game used material. With no license, they have had to be better than the other manufacturers when it comes to getting quality memoribilia for their cards.

But you can see in the other thread, there can sometimes be flaws in the process. If you get a game used jersey, with a COA from the NHLPA saying it's game worn, is that good enough? If MeiGray says it's game worn, becuase they got it straight from the team, is that good enough?

The only way you're ever going to be able to get a game used jersey, and know 100% that it was game worn..... is to be @ the game, and grab it when the player takes it off. A little unrealistic.

To me - what ITG has done here is shown their commitment to getting authentic material, all the time. They could have easily dismissed concerns that the jersey may not have been game worn, by showing the NHLPA certificate. They didn't. They've issued a newletter, recalling ONE card from an entire release. I have my doubts that they would do this, if there was a reasonable possibility that much of the rest of their Game Worn stock was unreliable.


ITG, and the rest of the card compaines aren't lying to you. They're not trying to pull the wool over your eyes. I would trust the certifications on the back of any card, but you have to actually read the wording, and take the literal meaning of it. Are there going to be mistakes? Sure. It's been happening for 10 years.

This kind of thing is the exception, not the rule.

I may be barking up the wrong tree here but am having doubts on Simon Gagne's Stick Work cards from the UM10 range.

I cannot find any information/photo-matching that Gagne has used the stick used for the cards. I am wondering if anyone can prove me wrong, and I've done a lot of research but I believe the stick used for the cards are from Nike, and the brand Ignite.

I don't think Simon has used anything other than Nike Vapor and Nike Supreme (from the Nike brand anyway). But again, would love to be proved wrong.

I believe this is from a Nike composite shaft that would've been typical of the 99-00ish era. One piece sticks really didn't become popular until Easton released the Synergy around 2002ish, and this would include sticks like the Vapor XXX and what not. Hope that helps.

That's the one I am talking about, yeah. I have one incoming as well very similar to that, and I believe Gagne used Easton Ultra-Lite in juniors and in the early part of his Flyers career to which he then switched to Bauer.

I have contacted ITG twice and had no response.

I wouldn't think to much into it. Gagne used Bauer and Nike Shafts shortly after he broke into the NHL. The look legit to me. All of the stickworks i've seen have been using older sticks.

From what I've heard, players will try many models over the year and get their own models tweaked. The Eqpt mgr does the research and customizing. For several years, Zetty used a neon Yellow one that was customized for team Finland. He had many made up and used them until they restocked up on silver ones. Datsyuk has used 5 over the last 5 years I've seen.
