My experience so far with SCF
I just joined SCF last week. I guess I am a so called set builder. This may not be the best site but I like the possibilities to network with like minded individuals. Use your inventory manager to add cards to your want list (unless you have your circle of buddies and you don't want the world to see it). Then you can search inventory once the card record is in the database to see who has cards on your want list. If that person also posts cards on their want list, you can probably find a trading partner. I have learned that guys get spooked when you just trade at them out of nowhere so send a pollite message: hey, I am new to the site. I love that I can search other users inventory and view their want lists. It saves both traders valuable time in networking to the right guy. yadda, yadda, yadda.
If the trader is confused, they probably don't understand the site capabilities or they are totally incompetent and you should think twice before agreeing to 'trade first'. By the way, that rule, though it protects established traders with good ratings, puts an onus on me right now so don't expect any trade over $5 from me but at least help a brother get his 10 (even if it is below your level, so called rinky dink).Last edited by MadColtsFan; 12-04-2010 at 12:05 PM.

I don't have anything at all that you are collecting at the moment. But I always want to set build so if I pull a cool Yankee or former University of Washington pitcher I will put it my inventory. I always respond to trades within a day.

I really used to enjoy building sets. Now cost to much unless you bust boxes. many times, building sets is very tough esp when it comes to older stuff. If a trader is unorganized, this can be a hassle finding cards. I am glad some one is still doing this, if there is away of helping let me know.

Hi and Welcome to SCF.
I think your getting off on the right foot and will have your 20 trades in no time. The $5 strategy you are employing is sound. We've all started from somewhere. Let me know if I can help.

Welcome to SCF. Don't know what sport you collect, but hockey has its own set builder forum to help out the set builders.
I quoted your above because I've always felt that was a secondary, but beneficial effect of the MSF rule. Getting 20 trades under your belt helps to ease you into the SCF community. It also protects YOU because if you don't want to send more than 5$ trades at a time, well, good for you. Its something new and risky and taking it slow can help.
You want a 5$ trade? if you collect hockey, no problem. Check out my inventory. Got lots of all levels. If you've got other sports... well, there's always some nice members out there willing to do smaller trades. REally though, the difference between a 5BV and a 10BV is minimal. If you're willing to go to 10, I'm sure you'll find more members and the increase in risk isn't all that big.
Cheers,
