    My customs and question

    Hi,

    I've been lurking for some time here and just signed up. I posted this question on the BOcards forum but got no response and seeing how active this forum is, decided to sign up here. I've been back in the hobby (mostly baseball, some hockey) for half a year now and I've been sending TTM requests to select players c/o their teams in the latter months of the baseball season as well as to the AFL. Most of the time, I sent cards that I could spare and didn't mind if they don't come back. I've also sent custom made cards when I had only one or no cards to send. To make sure I'm posting this in the right section, here's a sampler of some I've managed to get back :

    One of my first successes a few months ago was from one of my favorites as he co-anchored my 2010 fantasy team that won it all : Max Scherzer on a 2010 A&G card. I didn't have a 2nd card, so I included custom made cards that he didn't send back. Here it is :

    A few weeks later, I received a letter from the Detroit Tigers. In it, I found my missing unsigned custom made cards and a letter stating that Tigers players are under strict rules not to sign unlicensed items. I was surprised by this gesture for 2 reasons:
    1- I didn't know about the unlicensed items signing rule;
    2- The Tigers took the time to send back my customs and inform me of the rule.

    Did you guys know about this? I'm perplexed because I've had returns of customs. Is this mainly the Tigers or does any other organization open the fan letters addressed to the players? I can't imagine Mr. Scherzer taking the time to sign my A&G card and sending the customs to the front office so they could inform me. Although that would make him a REAL NICE guy. To better my chances at being successful, I wanted to know what the policy for ttm with MLB is, if there is any?

    The Tigers are the only MLB team I know of that has stipulations with fan mail. I do know that a lot of their guys sign with donation to some foundation relating to the Tigers.. I didn't know that it had to be licensed stuff though.

    Welcome to SCF! Glad to have you here and thanks for sharing your customs!

    I hadn't heard of that happening anywhere before. I sure hope that's not a start of a trend in sports!

    Thanks! I'll be sure to send only licensed items to the Tigers then. Unless it's to one of the players that sign only with donation to their Foundation of course.
