It was announced quite a while ago (back in the summer) that McDonalds is done with "premium" promotions.

Its funny that they don't want to do hockey cards anymore, yet I know personally hundreds and hundreds of dollars that would've been spent on McDonalds that will now stay in the pockets of myself and my friends.

Ya there are lots of people that never go to there all year until the cards are available. It would be great to see this backfire for McDonalds.

Not sure how it would backfire.
McDonalds (like any company that size) employs some really skilled bean counters.
revenue from card sales + bump in profit from food...... must not be a whole lot bigger than cost of cards + cost of adverstising + cost of time spent dealing with cards at store.
They're a business. I can gaurentee that if they were making a substantial amount of money from these cards, they'd still be selling them.

There is no way they would have been doing it in years past if it didn't bring in a substantial amount of money.

My guess is though, that over the last few years that substantial amount of money was getting a lot smaller...... I know for a fact that the last couple of years many stores would let you buy as many packs as you wanted - because they were having a hard time getting rid of them (I took advantage of this, big time. Did a couple round of 50 pack purchases, and I was done with them).
Things like the Goalie Masks, Sticks, Mini Jerseys, Pucks, Trophies, Coins, etc, etc, that they've done over the years - most of them ended with a lot of unsold product.
Anyone honestly think that McDonalds would scrap this kind of promo, if they were making a lot of money because of it?

Not sure what year it was they did this release but it was a set of all the NHL trophies and a plastic stand to hold them. Did the whole set and still have it as a show piece for my jersey card collection. Probably one of the best they did.

I've got a set of that one too.
Don't get me wrong - I've really liked some of the promos McDonalds has done over the years..... and its too bad they've dropped them.
I just think the reasoning behind it is pretty simple: Not enough money is generated by the sale of these things.
