Have you ever wondered who Topps, Fleer, Upperdeck and Panini buy their Cut autos from? I have seen TONS that look like signed Index Cards. I wonder how much they pay someone for the Cuts. Just think Fleer makes a Cut from a Sig you sold to them and makes it a 1/1 and the Value will Triple. I would like to know the process of the Cut sigs in packs.

I think he means guys like Babe Ruth who passed away before there were these authentication companies.

I bet we would all be surprised where these things come from. I know there are more than a few reported instances where companies (either knowingly or not) put fake cuts into products.

You'd think but if you look at a bunch of the cuts their clearly just run of the mill autos. A popular thing to use for a Stan Musial cut has been the bio card he returns to ttmers. Another popular thing for HOF cuts are the perez steele postcards and hof plaque postcards. I doubt anybody thought to witness Buck Leonard sign 200 HOF postcards then save them to use 15 years later. The fact is a lot of these autos are bought with help from PSA, JSA, some other authentication company who says their legit. Thats why a lot of people tend to avoid collecting cut autos.

In my opinion the cut auto has gotten out of hand. They were cool when UD inserted cut autos 10 years ago of guy like Ty Cobb, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, etc. There was a true value to them and pretty cool if you happened to pull one from a pack.

Now, you may pull a cut auto out of a pack and it is a cut of a guy like Bob Turley. Then, as someone mentioned earlier, the company numbers it 3/10 and all the sudden it is a low print run and people are paying 50 bucks for it on line. Last I checked, Bob Turley would sign 10 of them for the 88 cents.

I am with a lot of people, I just do not see the point in buying cut autos unless it is someone who played in the 20's and there just isn't any signed items available for that particular player.

To answer the original question, I am sure they are buying huge lots of these cuts and again as someone mentioned, having the sigs authenticated by PSA, JSA, etc. These companies are making a ridiculous amount of money off of these cuts simply due to the massive amounts of signed ICs from many of the players from the 50's and 60's.

I have stopped buying boxes and cases of cards simply based on the fact that most of the time you end up with a handful of autographs of guys you can get for free on what ever card you want signed TTM. Not to mention, an empty wallet. This reason alone is why I am a hugeeeeee fan of Through the Mail Signatures.

LOL! The card companies have to know that the TTM portion of the hobby hates certified autographs of players who sign mail for free. Those cuts usually have poor designs and lets be honest are way overpriced! Where do they get the autographs? That is a question that I would love an answer to. They do not come slabbed and that to me would suggest that they are not paying for certification or that PSA or another comapny of reputation is not willing to stand behind the authenticity. Could you imagine pulling a 1/1 Cy Young that was encased as certified by a different certification company like Beckett, then the puller say he wants in PSA certified, mails the card and they call it a fake! What a potential PR nightmare for card companies and grading companies! It would really hurt the industry!

Worth a read. And look at the end. This guy's buddy got Vick at the Pro Bowl one year and then PSA said it was fake. I can't stand 3rd party authentication and that is what all of these cuts are.

Totally agree! I have even seen AP presidential pack-pulled cuts and others that appear to be fake

I had a IP President Obama signed baseball. PSA rejected and JSA authenticated it. The whole system is ridiculous.
