Until you actually make an argument as to why he is the ONLY player you can have at the #2...that's the type of response I'll give.

Youre kidding right? Well I start with...he hasnt been out injured for the past month+.

How about the fact that he leads the league in points, goals, ppg's, gwg's, etc etc etc.

He has scored more goals than anyone in the league over the course of the last year and half.

He won the Richard last year and is well on his way to it this year and has a good chance of hitting 60 goals this year.

He has the best shot in the league (wrister, snapshot, slap shot, one timer) hands down as far as accuracy+speed.

Hes one of the faster skaters in the league.

Do I really need to go on?

Datsyuk is great. Hes one of if not the best stickhandlers in the league. But thats about the only thing Datsyuk has on Stamkos as far as skill wise goes.

And dont even get me started on you having Staal ahead of Stamkos. Staal is behind Datsyuk so there ya go.

After Crosby and Stamkos I would say right now you could make an argument for a number of players. But its Stammer and Crosby 1a and 1b right now.

How about you try to tell me why you have any of those other players above Stamkos. This is a top 10 list of players in the nhl now right? Not top 10 over the past 5 years or something.

First, Datsyuk is hands down the best defensive forward in the league. Bar none. When you double the 2nd best person in takeaways each year, it speaks for itself. As far as a complete forward, Datsyuk already has half of what you need. Then you add in the fact that he is, bar none, the best deker in the league. Just because someone has been injured the past month does not mean that another player is suddenly better. A lot of people severely underestimate Datsyuk because all they do is look at the # of his points and play down his talent. If he was more offensive minded and not such a responsible defensive player, he could definitely put up a 100 point season yearly. Datsyuk is the best, most complete forward in the NHL.

As for the Staal argument, I admitted that it was a little weaker. I still like Staal but I don't feel the need to defend his position as much as he's more interchangeable.

As far as comparing Crosby and Stamkos, it's most certainly not 1A & 1B. Crosby is MUCH better than Stamkos. Points don't tell the whole story and take away the concussion, Crosby would be much further ahead in points/goals.

As far as having the best shot, that's debatable as well. I'll agree over the last 1 1/2 years, he's been on fire. Why not through Rick Nash on his line with St. Louis and see how many goals he puts up? If were talking about goal scoring and I had to chose one player to be my designated "goal scorer" it would be Ovechkin, not Stamkos.

And you would end up with less goals then the guy who picked Stamkos from here out.

Datsyuk is a defensive stalwart but being good defensively doesnt make him the best player in the world.

I would say hes top 10 for sure but not ahead of Stamkos for sure. In fact I would put St Louis and Datsyuk at even levels. Stamkos put up 2 less points in his second season than Datsyuk has put up in a season in his entire career. And Stamkos looks like he will blow by that mark this year.

You just cant disregard stats and say Datsyuk is better because hes more defensively responsible. Stamkos is actually very good in his own end. Not as good as Datsyuk but hes no slouch like Ovechkin.

Considering the recent player poll taken from NHL players about who they would start a team with, Stamkos was on the list, Datsyuk wasnt even in the top 5, and you cant use age as a factor because Lidstrom was right behind the winner Crosby.

Datsyuk is a great player. No doubt. But Stamkos is better.

That's your opinion and I think we can agree to disagree. Both are great players though!

This is practically impossible as there are so many good players that could fit in the 5-10 range, but here are my thoughts.

    Crosby
    Datsyuk
    Stamkos
    Ovechkin
    Lidstrom
    The Sedins
    M. Richards
    Selanne
    Zetterberg

    it's actually crosby

then the rest of the NHL

no one is even in the same area code as crosby. stamkos has an amazing superstar lineup to play with and he can barely outscore/ out point crosby.

crosby being 1b is beyond hilarious.

stamkos can have # 2 though, but maybe that belong s to datsyuk because both crosby and datsyuk are very well rounded. stamkos can just shoot better then most likely anyone to ever lace the skates up .stamkos definitely isn't anywhere near that good of a passer compared to the latter 2.

    bam.

I'm not trying to say Datsyuk is better than Crosby as I really don't feel like arguing on an internet message board about something so petty, but you can keep your Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Sedin twins, etc., etc., just give me Pav.
