Going to Edmonton next week... (Shops? Packs?)
Where should I buy some packs of cards?
Over the past couple of years I have gone up to Edmonton and to celebrate my time in Canada and the great sport of hockey I always pick up some hockey cards.
My first two times I went to each shop in the West Edmonton Mall. Are there any other shops close to there or in like St. Albert/Morinville (a little closer to where I'll be)? I heard Wayne's is good, just never been there.
What packs should I buy this year? Two years ago I bought some Black Diamond, last year I bought some SPGU. I'd like to get a good chance to pull a Taylor Hall (Edmonton is my 2nd favorite team) or Jeff Skinner auto (Carolina is my favorite team).
Thanks to you Albertans who can help me out!

Wayne's, Wayne's, Wayne's is all I have to say. Located right behind West Edmonton Mall in the little shopping complex close to a McDonald's, they have some of the best prices you'l find in the hobby and a selection that'll overwhelm you if you are not entirely prepared for it.
West's is alright, but it is too far a drive, and located in a dodgy end of town. There is barely enough room to move around within, and their prices are generally on par with West Edmonton Mall prices, which are rather high.
There is also a card shop in Capilano Mall. It is small, and somewhat expensive, but they have some unique pre-lockout memorabilia singles.
There's the Westmount card show this weeked for which I am getting ready to go to right now.
There is also Northgate Stamp Shop, not too far from West's, which sells some early 90s boxes for as low as $10 which includes the price of GST. Very good if you have an itch for opening something, but do not want to pay big bucks.
Other than that, every other card shop in town is pretty dodgy and not worth the trip.

+1 on Wayne's. They're awesome. Mention that they've got a great rep from just about everybody here at SCF. It gets a smile. :)
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

+2; I concur, If you are going to visit Edmonton, and Hockey Cards is something you want to check out during your time here... Wayne's is an absolute must. They also have probably the best selection for other sports as well.
The Best staff (Wayne, Nicole, Cory, Michelle, Wayne Sr., and June), Best Edmonton Prices. I'll pimp that store anytime I get a chance. You have a 50/50 chance of bumping into a member of SCF while you are in there as well.
They also have a facebook page with thier address, phone number, and hours. As well with photos from this years National Hackey Card day which will let you see the size of the store.

Of all the other places that IrbeFan4Life mentioned, West's is the only other place I have gone from time to time. Moe and Jim, are friendly, they do have a good selection, but thier prices are about as high as the WEMall stores.
Hope this helps.Last edited by mikecole141; 02-26-2011 at 02:41 PM.

Nice that Wayne's is next to West Ed as I'll be heading to the water park and the comedy club there again this year.
That seems like the place to go. Looks like that's where I'll be heading. I'll be sure to mention the wonderful rep from SCF members. I've also seen some great pulls from there :)
As far as packs I'm thinking of Certified or Limited...not sure if I want to just get a few packs or a box :) Maybe I'll go Series I to try and get some YG, but the odds of an auto aren't too great.

I'll be hitting Wayne's next Saturday. I don't mind West's, but Irbefan is right about its location and the fact that its size makes it a little uncomfortable.

I agree with everyone about Wayne's as well...awesome place. Have only ever been to one other place and that was the Capilano mall one before I found Wayne's.
Have fun while in Edmonton...unfortunately we've got quite the cold snap this week.
