    Random Thoughts

Just some random thoughts while I'm eating my lunch

    * New Jersey is 20-2-2 in their last 24 games! It's a shame that they were 10-29-2 in the 1st half of season. Playing only a half a season is not enough to get you into the Playoffs.

    * You need to play 3/4th of the season; ask my Sabres about this. They were BRUTAL in October and November. Since the Derek Roy injury, they are 18-8-5.

    * Jarome Iginla is 1st ballot Hall of Famer and no player will ever wear #12 in Calgary after he hangs up the skates. Could reach 1000pts this season and 500 goals next season.

    * So, what happens to the Manitoba Moose next season? Looks like the Jets coming going home and that would be a party! If this does happen, do you put Winnipeg in the Northwest and move Colorado to the Pacific Division?

    * The Thrashers are next up on the relocation plan. But I have read that Seattle, not Quebec could be inline for this franchise. Not to downplay Seattle as a hockey market, but there was an arena issue when Seattle lost the Sonics (NBA). I can't imagine this would be fine for NHL play.

    * If the playoffs started today, we'd have Philly-Buffalo, Boston-New York, Washington-Montreal, Pittsburgh-Tampa in the East and Vancouver-Los Angeles, Chicago-Calgary, San Jose-Phoenix and Detroit-Dallas in the West!

    * Modano playing in the playoffs against the Stars would be just weird if this held out.

    * Could Tim Thomas win the Hart Trophy? If he gets Boston to the #1 seed in the East and/or the Presidents Trophy, it's VERY possible.

    * I hope the Little Debbies make it.

    * Sabres and Devils In, Leafs and Rags & Canes Out (fingers crossed)

    * Iginla is a lock, but he might have to wait his turn for: Phil Housley, Vinny Damphousse, Pat Verbeek, Peter Bondra, Pierre Turgeon, Cujo, Jaromir Jagr, Mike Modano, Keith Tkachuk, Roenick, Lidstrom, and Adam Oates. There are no Ballots in NHL selection, You are chosen and you go, unlike MLB

    * Jets are not feasible, it will be over Bettman's dead body. If the Jets do go back, Bettman will resign. He's looking at Selig's job, but apparently Seling wants no part of him.

    * Seattle makes more sense than Quebec, but they need a new building. They lost the Sonics because they could not afford to build 3 new facilities within 3 years of each other. New building and they get a team by some means.

    * Ovech-Trick for Big Mo against the rednecks.

    * Yes Timmy T can do it, but he will have to hope that Chara stops turning over the puck like he's done the last 4 games.

I could see Seattle, the greater Seattle are is millions of people. But Key Arena is a bit of a dump, The city can afford a knew hockey arena with Qwest Field and Safeco Field opening in the last 10 years, and might I add they are very nice stadiums, I've been to games in both. The Thunderbird's are currently playing home-games in Kent, which is about an hour away from Seattle It's self.
I would love to see a team in Seattle rather than Winnipeg... I go there a lot and have family there.

I still get the feeling that Portland is more viable from a league standpoint. From what I hear their current arena is quite nice, they have supported a WHL team for quite some time, so they have the hockey fans, and there is only the Trailblazers as far as pro sports goes. Seems like a better fit than Seattle to me. Of course, with KC waiting in the wings, I see them getting a franchise before anyone. All 3 make more sense than Winnipeg or QC (which makes more sense than Winnipeg) the way the league is being run / marketed at the moment. With that said, I believe Portland/Seattle, KC, Winnipeg and QC make more sense than Atlanta, Phoenix, Columbus and Miami at this point, but that's just me.

    * New Jersey - I'd love to see it happen (it's been a crazy run) but you're right, too little too late.

    * Buffalo - Is Roy really that bad??

    * Jarome Iginla - I'll rank him right below Mike Gartner on my list of all time greats.

    * Don't worry AHL fans.... The Moose will be fine. There won't be any NHL to compete with them.

    * Still not buying the idea that relocation is as likely as the media is trying to make it out to be (hint: It boosts web traffic, because hockey fans in Canada like to think it will happen)

    * Too early to comment on playoff matchups, but I'll be happy to send out my picks when the times comes :)

    * Weird, but also a little bit awesome.

    * Thomas, D. Sedin, St. Louis, and Stamkos would be my group of 4 picks right now.... Iginla may sneak into that group too. Still a little while for someone to seperate themselves from the pack.

its not that Derek Roy is a bad player, in fact he is arguably one of the best forwards the Sabres have but its one of oddities of a team getting better without that best forward

Yeah. It just makes you wonder sometimes when you see stuff like that. You'd think him being injured would hurt them..... but the lack of Roy (or just a coincidence?) seems to have made others play better.

Through the first part of the season, oy was without a doubt our best forward. It really is a strange thing to see the team play better without him but it seems like alot of other guys (Vanek, Ennis, Stafford, etc) have stepped up in his absence. Could be interesting if we make the playoffs and hes able to come back at any point

Interesting thoughts on the NHL. You're partially right about the mentioning of playing half a season and then getting into the playoffs. If you have a bad 1st half but then really have a great 2nd half, there's still a chance for your team to make the playoffs. Of course I think that we can all agree that it's a lot harder to make the playoffs if you play like garbage the first half of the season, but it doesn't make it inpossible to still achieve success in late in the season.

You're right about the Modano and the Stars - it would be weird, haha.
