    Carmelo who

You would have thought he would've made the Knicks a better team, but they have now slipped to under 500 since he joined them,What gives.

As Chuck has said "Teams that don't play defense ain't gonna win."

Personally, as a Denver fan who saw just about every game Melo played in the NBA, he needs the offense to revolve around him to be really effective. If he feels left out he will just start jacking shots left and right to try and get his. He is so talented offensively he doesnt have to be engaged in the game to put up points, but when he is not all there his team defense becomes non-existant. I think he and Stoudemire can be a great tandem but D'Antoni needs to give a little bit on "his offense" and start putting in half-court melo iso plays and Amare & Melo pick and rolls and they will become really good and much more effecient (offensively) imo. In the run and gun style Melo will become a ball stopper and just jack up shots, but in a structured offense ran through him he becomes a 50% fg shooter, 9 ft pg, 7 rpg a game and he is somewhat engaged on defense. This is just my opinion though, it does also seem that there is alot of chemistry issues that are affecting the team with Amare's recent comments about players buying into the system.

Growing pains, now I know i'll hear 'you didnt say that about Miami!!!!'

My response to that would be newsflash, they signed as free agents and had the offseason, 'training camp' and preseason to have the chance to play together and it still isn't helping them (but thats because they dont have a team that can contend with the best)

back on topic, Carmelo went right to NY, its not likely they'd become so much better, besides, Chauncey has missed some big games, and thats a big difference as well. they weren't gonna contend one way or the other this year, so its not really a big deal.

As Chuck has said "Teams that don't play defense ain't gonna win."

Thats part of the flawed system ran in NY, why anyone would want a coach like that is beyond me, he'll never win anything significant with that kind of system...

Wait, is the bolded part about the heat? If so, they can contend with the best.

The Suns had some pretty damn good teams when D'Antoni was there, and they couldn't ever make deep playoff runs because they didn't play defense. That will NEVER change. It doesn't matter how good your team is, if you don't play defense, you're not gonna win a title. The Knicks need to get rid of D'Antoni, otherwise they'll never be championship contenders regardless of who else they add to the roster.

Yep it was. They're 2-0 against LA for whatever reason, and 1-8 against the Celtics, Bulls, Mavs and Spurs. They've shown they can't contend..They have no size, and no bench..thats not the topic at hand, we've already seen the Heat can't match up..this is about the Knicks.

Yep, they had some great teams, but no defense killed them. The players aren't gonna go up to a coach (usually) and be like 'Coach can we work on our defense!?' the coach has to make the players do it, and he refuses to do it for whatever reason, not sure why a GM/Owner would want that kind of coach for a team.

Right, but I think that they will contend sooner rather than later... They have Lebron James, a top 2 player, D-wade, top 10, and Bosh, who is very good. They might not look too good at this, but come playoff time, they still have Lebron James and Dwayne Wade.

That doesn't change the fact that they won't contend this season due to lack of bench productivity, lack of size and they don't beat the best teams. Will they be actual contenders somwhere down the line? Absolutly they will, If they make the right moves in the offseason, I wouldnt be suprised to see them contend next year, but they need to get in players that will help. The team in place right now won't win...

Back to the topic at hand, I think the Knicks will obviously make the playoffs, and the best scenario for them in my opinion is to play the Heat. I don't see them winning the series, but I think A) it'd be entertaining and B) it'd give them the best possible chance to win, since I see them atleast for this year having no shot against the Celtics, Magic or Bulls.

I agree with all of u guys that defense is very important and w/o def team will never win the title. But if I remember correctly I think Suns def had gotten a lot better by the end of D'Antoni's yrs (top 12 in the league I think).

U can criticize Melo but because of his star power, NY had become top FA destination.
Also, you have to understand, when a team makes a trade this big by changing half a team, it takes many games for them to jell (look at Miami early this season).

It is all about the playoffs and any team would not want to face Amare, Melo, Billups trio.

    rather face the Hawks imo.

Give NY some time. it's too early to decide and even argue this way.
