    Paying it forward.

    I posted a thread in Show and Tell about my recent pulls/mail/etc., and posted a photo of this card, promising a great story to go with it...

    Well, here goes... A few days back, out of the blue, I get an e-mail from Alan, known here on SCF as myersfan57. He sent me a PM, asking me for my home address. He said that he's got something I could use, and that he wants to surprise me with it, to give his karma a boost. No strings attached, no take this now and get something back to me later, he just wanted me to have it, and was adamant about me not feeling as if I owed him, or thinking that I should feel obligated to thank him in any way. I have thanked him though, countless times, because it put some faith in man back into me. Brought back the sense that people are inherently good. He explained that it's just a card, and that it would have sat in a box in his closet until he found it and sold it for a few bucks. Instead, he chose to send it to someone that he knew would want it, to make their day. I'm lucky to have been that someone, and was left speechless for a while about it.

    I've spoken to Alan a lot through the site since then, and found out that he's a solid guy. Generous, kind, funny, and cool all around. I'm not planning on sending anything back to him, because it's really not what he would want, but I'm going to pay it forward some day instead. It's all I can do to pay back into the old karma pool, to see that someone else's day is brightened by a simple act of kindness without reason or repayment. While I can't thank him by returning that favor, I can thank him by sharing this story, paying it forward to someone else, and letting everyone know what kind of people there are out there, if you only take a moment to look for them.

    I started this thread to simply point out that one act of generosity will lead to another, and hopefully it'll get enough similar stories to warrant a sticky. One of these days, I'll pay this act of kindness forward, donating one small piece of cardboard, whether it sports ink, cloth, whatever is attached to it, to another member here, to pay it forward, whether a big offering or small, something thoughtful, and from the heart. Without reason or rhyme, without expecting anything in return, no selfish motive, no other reason but to pass on a dash of kindness. To hand that sense of generosity off to another member, in the name of the person who first passed it on to me through a kind gift, Alan Zimmerman, a.k.a. myersfan57. I'm proud, and honored by it, and I appreciate it greatly.

    Thanks Alan, and thanks to everyone for reading, I hope this strikes a chord in your heart, and gives you the same kind of inspiration it gave to me.

    -Chris, a.k.a. Bruinsfan08

    Just made a deal with Alan the other day and seems like a stand up guy. I'm a big believer in Karma and good things come to those who do good deeds. Glad to see there are still good people out there. Great story!

    Its nice when someone can restore your faith in humanity. The complete un-obligated acts of kindness or caring can have a profound impact. Very nice Alan, and thank you for sharing Chris.

    p.s. As a Bruins fan Chris and in the mood for paying it forward, don't you think the Bruins should give the Leafs something nice?

    Awww, Kessel wasn't good enough? ;) Can't give you too much my friend, we're playing on Thursday, and it's the only game I'll be seeing at the Garden this season, so I'm hoping on a big night for the B's!

    Lol, I think pretty much everyone is in agreement that you guys are ahead on a few trades;

    +1 Boston on Raycroft...
    +3 Boston on Kessel (would take Seguin, Knight and #1 this year any day of the week)
    +1 Toronto on Kaberle (hate to see him leave but 1st and Colbourne are worth it)

    On a positive note at least Bruins fans can stop hoping Toronto tanks after you get our pick this season and go back to hating the Habs, as a Boston fan recently explained to me, lol
