Panini Blog: Mining and Pining - Looking at the Gold Standard
http://paniniamerica.wordpress.com/2...rd-basketball/

If I could be recast in card form as any basketball product in the entire collecting universe, I think I’d want to be the breath of fresh air that is 2010-11 Panini Gold Standard (and I’m not just saying that because I work here). The uniquely themed high-end offering, due out May 25, is unapologetically lustrous from beginning to end – packed with enough luster to sparkle well past its rookie season.
Yesterday we gave you a behind-the-scenes look at how the product’s peerless packaging came about. Today, compliments of a fresh batch of proofs from the veritable goldmine known as the Panini America Routing Table, we offer an extended glance at a handful of Gold Standard’s myriad compelling inserts, including Gold Rings, Gold Nuggets and Golden Age.
Simply, you won’t unearth another product on the sports card landscape that is as consistently true-to-theme as this one. It wears its precious-metal mantra proudly and stands out — and alone — because of it. As you can plainly see from the pre-productions proofs that follow, that is unmistakably a good thing.
Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates on 2010-11 Panini Gold Standard Basketball.

But it comes in a gold box...
http://paniniamerica.wordpress.com/2...-of-a-package/
Those print proofs are YUCK!
The saturation/hue is WAY too dark compared to what they had proposed back in February :

Sheer garbage in my eyes, but I guess it's to be expected...
Remember its the same people responsible for this :

I dont think this set is as bad as some people are making it out to be, but its surely not anything special.
Also, why is it that nearly every nba product released from Panini has been $70+, not everyone wants to shell out that kind of money for a bunch of lackluster cards.
The only lower end products that they have released have been pretty pathetic.
Some people are still collectors, who actually enjoy the hobby, not resellers just looking to make a buck, and it seems as though Panini is only catering to those people(resellers).
God it would be so nice to have another company producing NBA trading cards, and offering an actual fresh breath of new air.
All in all I really expected more from Panini when I heard they were going to be making NBA cards, but in all honesty Ive been highly dissapointed, and surely will not be buying another one of there products.Last edited by adadas101; 03-31-2011 at 01:12 PM.
