Junior Eligibility
Just a quick question regarding junior eligibility.
If a player was born/play midget/anything under junior level in Quebec, must he be drafted in the QMJHL? Same applies for a Western Canadian kid playing in the WHL?
I've noticed a trend in lots of players, but then Claude Giroux was born in Ontario, played midget in Ontario but was drafted in Quebec.
Is it just a case of 16 years old being too far from home etc?
Just curious.

Giroux went undrafted in the OHL draft, which I believe made him a free agent to play his junior where he wanted to

Ah, Giroux might be a good example then. I guess the OHL have priority over Ontario born players.

Thats correct. Say your born in Ontario like Giroux and play all of your puck here and dont get drafted in your first year of the OHL draft than you can state your intent to go elsewhere to the OHL and then peruse the option of playing elsewhere.
