What is a 50/50? Simple question.

its an autograph thing. Say you are going to a Mets game and you are getting autographs. I could send you 2 cards of david wright (example) you get them both signed and send me back 1. 50/50s are mainly for people who cant afford to buy things for autographs

In my mind, it has nothing to do with 'affording to buy things', it has to do with getting an IP autograph instead of a TTM autograph for someone who may or may not sign through the mail. It is also a way for the person who is getting the autographs to get something additional for their collection. I love successful 50/50's, and I know the autographs are authentic, and not a clubhouse guy signing them when I mail them.

I was saying for the person getting the things signed. If you cant afford to buy 8x10s you get someone to buy 2 then you just got one for free instead of paying

There, I fixed it to a sentence I agree with. For example, I 'can afford' to buy ROMLB's for Zach Lee to sign or cards for Blake Smith to sign, but I 'choose not' to buy these and instead give a chance to others who would cherish their autos in their own collection for a cost that is reasonable (the item cost + shipping both ways).
To the OP, the general concept has already been explained pretty well. There are a few more vital details with a 50/50, but don't worry about it until you actually become part of one.
