got 3 successes & 1 unsigned return today..
First, Unsigned card came back from "Mean" Joe Greene. Im well aware of his fee but i thought It was worth a shot. sent $5 with a card & nice note & came back unsigned asking for $25. No biggie.. I knew the chances were slim at best but at least i got my $5 back..
First Return came from Bobby Unser 2/1, out 5-18. back 5-31. Card got badly smeared. Bobby also signed an Index card for me with " 3 x indy winner " on it. Thought that was cool of him. wish the card sig looked better but the index makes up for it.
Next, Al Unser 1/1, out 5-16, back 5-31. another great Indy champion. Card turned out great..
& last, Courtney Force 1/1, out 5-2, back 5-31. Card looks great. Very happy with this return...

I have noticed a trend happening when i search this board as well as others.. I trend that i have to say, Dont really care for.. That trend would be PEOPLE SIGNING THE BACK OF CARDS!!!! Really would like to know what they are thinking... are they not thinking?? Do they think " this picture is so nice, i dont want to ruin it with my signature"? Or, are they thinking " I'll sign the back then this card will be worth even less". Jokes on them if they do because a base/ custom autographed piece of cardboard is about as worthless as they come. Only valuable to the fan sending it. Maybe its the persons handler, setting up the items for the athlete to autograph. Maybe in my case, when they opened my envelope, The .2 seconds it would take to flip the card over is just not time efficient. As you might be able to tell, Today was NO exception for me..

Danica Patrick 1/1, out 5-21, back 6-2.. Incredible how fast this came back.. super excited to see this one except............ Thats right... She signed the back of my card. This is my 2nd return in 2 weeks of athletes signing the back of my cards. I appreciate the return & the time they take to grant us with a quik signature, but... why the back?? just dont get it..

I know that Danica has a handler that lays everything out for her to sign. Was graphing a football team at the hotel here in Indy and saw Danica walk by in to a room with mail bags to the side and she went in and went to town signing stuff and the assistant with her was taking stuff and stuffing back in the envelope.

I'm totally with you, on this topic. I don't get it. It doesn't seem that it doesnt bother most people/collectors that I've talked to, but it really bugs me. haha I mean I still, appreciate the rturn and signature, but really? I mean why? Forturantely for me I only have one card where the back was sign, but unforturantely it was Shaq.
Danica is still a great return! Congrats!Last edited by Autofreak2842; 06-02-2011 at 01:38 PM. Reason: typo

I'd say it's either how the cards come out of the envelope when being signed all at once and the handler is too lazy
OR
it has to do with trying to make the cards harder to sell- as we know athletes don't like their autos being sold online.

now that i've calm down about my disappointing return, Guess whats most disappointing is i didnt get what i wanted... close but still wasnt what i was expecting.. I think im about 1 more ( back of the card ) return away from including in my letters a nice " Please if you could, sign the font of my card" I dont know how you guys display your returns but i have mine in a card album & kinda stinks when a guest flips through the pages, stops, & asked " why did he ( & now she) sign the back of your card?"
I really hope that people are not going to start signing the back of items because of fear of stuff being sold on-line. That would kill any kind of 8x10 request for sure. But in reality, if them or there handlers took 20 seconds to search there product CORRECTLY... & When i say correctly im talking about actual base/custom cards that are signed being sold & not authentic card company autos, They would see there items selling for acouple bucks at the most & not any real profit being made. If you think about it.. If anyone is trying to make a living off TTM, good luck..

I had the same thing happen with a Yogi Berra success- he signed the front of the card twice and the back of it once. Everyone that sees it- instead of saying "you got yogi berra's auto" they say "why did he sign it like that?"
Meh oh well. Still a great success, just 95% happy instead of 100%. I'm sure you're the same.

Front or back, that's still an awesome return! At least the back is displayable, unlike the Alex Karras you got back earlier...
