    Need help with home theather

I’m not home entertainment savvy at all and need some help here.

I currently bought this unit for my home theater system. The house I bought came with a projector mounted into the ceiling so plugging the cables into the back of the TV is not an option. I’ve purchased an xbox 360 and I needed to purchase a digital switch for my component cables. I’ve been unable to get the audio to work. I thought all I needed to do was take the optical cable from the back of my cable box and plug it into one of the audio ports and that did not work. The picture is fine for both the cable and xbox 360. Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong.

Does the audio still work for the cable?

Yes, the optical cable works fine from the receiver to the FIOS box. I've also tried a coaxial cable from the receiver to the FIOS box and that works too.
