This is why I like BVG

I have seen a few questions and discussions lately on grading. My Gretz RC is why I like BVG. I paid $150 for it because it is a "6". For me, surface, corners, and edges are more important than centering. With this one, an "8" for surface and "9"s for corners and edges make it, in my opinion, a visually pleasing card, despite being off-center top to bottom. Every collector is different, but this old system can be helpful for collectors in getting cards they like for decent prices.

I collect: Kurri, '70s Kelloggs, Topps/OPC hockey /90 and earlier, selected '90s hockey insert sets, '70s football, and baseball with focus on Dynasty A's and completing sets.

Wow, terrific addition for $150! I'm not up to speed on how much graded Gretzky RCs sell for, but that sounds like a darn good deal to me! I think I would have to agree that if there is one thing I could live without before the others it's the centering of the card as it doesn't represent the actual condition of the card.

I totally agree with that one:

But, remember, with the new rules, BVG will only give one grade. The days of the multigrade are long gone for vintage cards.

I have actually had it for probably 3 years. I don't know how good a deal it actually it, but in my mind it was a very good one for the quality of the card (and how much I wanted one after having to sell the one I used to have during a rough spell).

"reoddai": First of all, that's nice for a 3.5, a perfect example. Yeah, I knew about the BVG change, but you can still find some on the devil's auction site occasionally.
