Just wondering if there's any set maybe more recent because I'm unsure if they made these back then....any set like Prime 11/12 base cards which have a nice colour to them and that solid thick card size. Would love to have some of those but not gonna spend that much for a few cards so if there's something from earlier like that then it would be nice to look through.
^ @card_boarded Love the customs on your blog btw. I couldn't figure out Inkscape for designing customs but using another program now and it's going well although I'm doing random sets and experimenting right now rather than doing an actual set.

Nice to see the 93/94 Leaf set getting some love. The backs of those cards are some of the best ever. The Studio Signatures inserts are lovely too even though they are facsimile autos. I was disappointed that none of the other Leaf sets ever stood up to that very strong debut.

I have not included the rarest base sets.
The wonderful, extremely short printed 1990-91 Bowman Tiffany, and Topps Tiffany. Only 400 cases made. Real Hockey Cards. no frills, no lace, no fabric.

I like the 95-96 Zenith, 95-96 Emotion, 93-94 Leaf, 96-97 SPx, 95-96 SP, 94-95 Finest (any year was good), 96-97 Ice (any of them in 90s), 96-97 Metal Universe, 91-92 Stadium Club (liked the back of the card), maybe more that I forgot.

I always liked 96-97 SPX, inexpensive to put together and gorgeous cards with the holograms.

The only really thick base cards I can think of are 94-95, and 95-96 Flair. Heavy, stout cardboard stock, but uber shiny, and the corners dented easily, or at least any imperfections were easily spotted.

The back of today's cards have improved but why don't they make cards like this anymore? Here's a cool one I found: 1998-99 Aurora Atomic Laser Cuts. Definetely have to start ordering some cards from the sets suggested here from somewhere:
And someone else also suggested I get a few 1998-99 UD3:
