Well, if I am part of everyone, then he was speaking about me. It's not my responsibility to defend everyone, just myself. And I have never claimed to "have all the answers", far from it. I admit to having fewer answers than the average believer feels he has. That I am certain of.

Out loud, yes I know.
But that's not the point, you took a statement about all of humanity and made it an attack on you. I don't see how that is useful at all, even with your explanation. Sorry.

"Out loud, I know." ?? I won't bother to "interpret" what that means and put words in your mouth, I am sure I would get it wrong.
Personal attack or not, I countered his argument with my opinion. That was the useful part of the discussion which you ignored.

You took his comment about humanity as an indictment of yourself. His point is perfectly valid and relates to everyone.

As I go through this life in the human flesh I tend to look for the things of the flesh (material things, flesh sustaining). To chose the things of the spirit, Holy Spirit, is feeding the soul. Those who do not believe, in God have souls, which are lost looking for a place to fill satisfied. I myself, in an even a worse place. I know the things of the spirit but live in the flesh. Those who do not know God will never know what this means.

The purpose of anything in this Earth/Universe is what it does. This does not give less meaning to things, people, or animals. IMO, it gives more. It creates better respect for purpose.

I think MOST humans are this way.
We like things, and we like to indulge on things that give us pleasure.
How exactly does this "soul" even work?
It's supposed to be us but without the body....but it still feels pain, happiness, other emotions?
IMO, the humans who came up with this "Soul" concept didn't understand how the body works.
Thanks to science, we know why humans feel emotions, we have an understanding of how the brain works, and we KNOW that once people die, their body shuts down....for good.
There has never been any medical or scientific proof that any souls exists.
Furthermore, christians and other religions have a hard time agreeing with WHAT a soul even is!
I was in your shoes some 5-6 years ago.
I wanted to be a good christian, but I had "temptations".
They were so strong that I would give in most of the time.
I felt guilty so many times....I couldn't sleep some times.
I would constantly struggle with this.
I would tell myself that I was an imperfect human and the devil wants god's children to sin and thus he tempts them with sex, money, materialistic things, etc.
I know exactly what you're talking about.
Here's the thing though.....I didn't feel like I was "sinning", I didn't feel like I was doing anything wrong.
If I wanted to masturbate (and conversely watch porn) because I had natural urges....I would do so, and when I got a girlfriend, if she wanted to have sex, I sure as hell wasn't going to deny her that wish!
But seriously....why would doing these things be a bad thing?
I wasn't hurting anyone....except myself with how guilty I felt after doing these things.
And that's when the whole concept of "sin" and "desires of the flesh" came into focus with me.
I was NEVER doing anything wrong...."Sin" (as I later came to realize) is a control mechanism to keep people in line.
It's not about right and wrong since ANYTHING can be a "sin".
Personally, I can't advise you how to deal with your situation because I'm in no position to do so, I can only talk about my own experience...

I wish I remembered the verse, but I seem to recall the bible saying when the body and soul are connected, one cannot die and the other live.
The idea of a separate soul is very human.

I understand humans tend to satisfy the flesh and I am not saying this is wrong, for we need to keep going and to provide if you are in that situation. I am just saying that God would us to live in the spirit, in turn knowing what is right and wrong, knowing what is to much, etc etc.
As far as Sin, is concerned we all have to walk the path we choose, I am not judging anyone, how can I. I just think that living in the spirit, Holy spirit, direction will be given to you.
All answers are not known, but can be attained through the wisdom of God.
Pain and sorrows increase with the increase of Wisdom. Again science has not proven that the soul does not exist, and may never know.Last edited by Theodor Madison; 03-10-2013 at 04:31 PM.
