Yesterday, I drove into Chicago to a UFC Gym in the South Loop for a meet and greet with UFC star Paige VanZant, who was promoting and selling her new book. I purchased one copy o fht e book, which she signed, and she signed two cards, unfortunately she used a dying blue Sharpie instead of the one I had in my hand.

Busy week for autos. Today, I drove to Chicago to a cellular store on the southside featuring an appearance by 2-time Slam Dunk Champion and current Chicago Bull Zach LaVine. The appearance was scheduled for one hour, and Mr. LaVine was 45 minutes late for the appearance. However, he was very generous with photos and autos, and he stayed until everyone got through more than once. He was signing three things at a time for people, and he was intrigued by the photos on some of his cards. I was able to get 1 8x10 signed, and 5 cards signed, for free.

To cap off a busy week of signing, this afternoon I went to Oak Lawn, IL for an appearance at a burger restaurant by Chicago Blackhawks young center Vinnie Hinostroza and recently acquired defenseman Jordan Oesterle. Unfortunately, they made is clear that the event was a charity event and wasn't sanctioned by the NHL, therefore, the players could not sign any outside items. This is technically not true, but whatever. They would only sign these 6x9 promo cards, so I get one signed from each of them. Then, they were giving away autographed pucks every few minutes, and I won one of them. It is a black puck with the restaurant logo on it, signed by both players.

Yesterday, I went to a local restaurant in Northbrook, IL for a featured author event with author and legendary character actor Stephen Tobolowsky (Spaceballs, Groundhog Day, Mississippi Burning, Californication, One Day At A Time, and more). He spoke to the crowd, read one of his stories, and took questions from the audience, and then signed his book. I bought a paperback, which he signed, and I also had him sign a 2008 Donruss Americana card.

This evening, I went to a cellular store in Chicago for an appearance by UFC legends Royce Gracie and Rampage Jackson. Mr. Gracie signed 2 cards for me and a promo 8x11, and Mr. Jackson signed two cards for me, although he was a little overzealous on the 2nd card, all for free.

Last weekend, I went to the Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates games on Friday and Saturday. I got down near the field for warm-ups, and Friday night, I was a person or two away from where Orlando Arcia started signing, so unfortunately I missed him. Saturday, I was a handful of people away from Travis Shaw when the anthem started, and he left, however, outfielder Brett Phillips was signing for everyone, and I had him sign a ball for me.

Been busy with a new job and two kids graduations coming up, but I was able to get out on Friday evening to a Frontier League (independent league) game between the Schaumburg Boomers and the Traverse City Beach Bums. I had nothing for the hometown Boomers, but was able to get 2 cards signed by former Royals prospect Alexis Rivera, 1 card signed by former Diamondbacks prospect Luke Lowery, and 8 cards signed by former MLB relief pitcher and current Beach Bums pitching coach Greg Cadaret.

Today, I went to a Meet & Greet with former Chicago Bears cornerback Charles "Peanut" Tillman at a food store in Crystal Lake, IL. Even though there was a store worker very angrily telling everyone that Peanut wouldn't sign anything, he signed one card for me, and signed one for most people. Honestly, someone gets a modicum of power and tries to throw their weight around, for no reason. He was threatening to throw people out of the store if he saw a pen!
Anyway, photo of the signed Peanut card:

Today, I went to the grand opening of Dick's Sporting Goods in Gurnee, IL, where they had former Jacksonville Jaguar and current Chicago Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson. Mr. Robinson signed 7 cards for me, although most of them he signed with his new Bears #12, instead of the 8 or 80 on the card, but no biggie, all for free.

There is a new minor league team in town, the Chicago Dogs. They play in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, and just built a field in Rosemont, IL, outside of O'Hare. The first-ever home game was on Friday, and I went to the Saturday game against the Kansas City T-Bones. I bought a ticket on the T-Bones side, as I was trying to get their 1st base coach, legendary Kansas City Royals star Frank White, but he did not appear, so I am guessing he doesn't travel with the team. Instead, I got former major leaguers Adrian Nieto (Chicago White Sox) to sign 1 card, pitcher Barrett Astin (Cincinnati Reds) to sign 1 card, and infielder Zach Walters (Washington Nationals) to sign 2 cards.
I am going back on Sunday, and will work the Chicago Dogs side.
