SCF Writing Contest - $100 Towards a Box of Card!
The last time we did this contest we had 34 articles written! The winner will receive $100 towards a box of cards on CardsbytheBox.com. The top 5 articles will be submitted to Tuff Stuff for consideration. The best article will be published in Tuff Stuff magazine and the author will get 5,000 Card Cash and a 1-year subscription to Tuff Stuff magazine. Articles must be a minimum of 500 words for this contest and 700 to be considered for Tuff Stuff.
To enter, you must write an article about one of the following topics:
- What is your favorite player and in your opinion his/her best 5 cards?
- How did you get into collecting? - Tell us about your humble beginnings as a collector
- Your childhood memories about the hobby – Did you use to trade cards at recess? Was your best Christmas present a case of cards?
- What do you like the most about collecting? – Is it the people you’ve met online, the challenge of completing sets or the chase for that untouchable white whale?
- Show and Tell about your most prized personal collection item – You look at it every day, you love it, tell us why, when you got it and how etc…
- Tell us about a card which is valuable to you for reasons other than monetary – Does it depict someone you know? Or perhaps someone who has had an influence on your life?
- Your favorite card and why you like it so much – Don’t leave anything out though; when was it made? Which company produced it? When did you acquire it? What is its print run? Etc…
- Your best experience in the hobby – Did you receive any unexpected gift in the post? Did you ever get to meet your favorite athlete and get their autograph? Did you attend a card show that was special to you?
RULES
1. Simply write an articles about the eight topics mentioned above
2. Your article must have a minimum of 500 words (700 to be considered for Tuff Stuff)
3. Grand prize winner will receive $100 towards a box on Cardsbythebox.com.
4. All qualified entries will receive 100 CC for their work (unless the article is poorly written and obviously not spell checked)
5. All submissions must be spell checked and posted as a new thread in the article submission forum: https://www.sportscardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=446 . In the thread title include your article title and the words CONTEST ENTRY.
Example: The Best Meeting Ever – CONTEST ENTRY
6. The deadline to submit your article is on the 31st August 2010 at 5.00 PM EST. Articles published before 1 August will receive an additional 100 Card Cash!
7. Open to ALL members to include SCF Staff (except for the Editor-in-Chief and the site owner)
8. You can write as many articles as you wish!
ELIGIBILITY AND ARTICLE REQUIREMENTS
1. You must be a member in good standing to enter (No unexpired infractions worth 5 points or more)
2. The article must be your own original work, using something written by someone else will result in disqualification
3. The article you use must be brand new, you cannot use an article which you previously submitted for the articles site
4. Add pictures to your article, it helps getting your message across
5. If your article is 700-800 words, it could be chosen as part of our monthly submission to Tuff Stuff Sports Collector Monthly who choose one of our articles each month to publish.
FURTHER DETAILS
1. Each article will be edited and posted on the SCF articles website. They will become SCF’s property.
2. The best articles received will be featured in the August and September editions of Collectors’ Corner, SCF online magazine.
3. The best article will be chosen by the Editor-in-Chief (JammingJames23)

cool contest. i have some experience writing for upper deck and this is a great idea for a contest. will try and get one in. thanks for the opportunity!
