Geithner: Treasury pushed for bonus loophole
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told CNN Thursday his department asked Sen. Chris Dodd to include a loophole in the stimulus bill that allowed bailed-out insurance giant American International Group to keep its bonuses.
In an interview with CNN's Ali Velshi, Geithner said the Treasury Department was particularly concerned the government would face lawsuits if bonus contracts were breached.

The only problem I have is how he handled this situation. If it was true that he was worried about lawsuits then he should of told the public up front. Now it looks like he was trying to get something by the American pubic. Even I doubt if this is true.

I think what most likely happened was they didn't realize this would be such a big deal. They probably paid it little attention, just wanted to avoid contractual problems, and didn't realize that the news would catch wind of it and make it such a story.

I do not know about this situation. The adminstration made a big deal about a plane. They should have seen this coming. It makes me think that there is something to what the Republicans are saying about Geinter's connection with AIG.

That's a good point...they were criticizing this type of thing when they were drafting the bailout, you'd think they would realize it would happen afterward as well...who knows

These were agreed upon last year, before obama was even elected. Try some research.
