The Offical Chat Thread of the 2010 Detroit Tigers

Might as well start one as well, Tigers have a busy offseason it seems!

Some needed help is the bullpen, starting pitching, left field and short stop, Bonderman/Willis if they ever regain there old selfs would sure up the starting pitching, resigning Brandon Lyon would help the bullpen, finding a new left fielder is a must, Guillen is awful in LF, he will probably DH, they could sign a free agent, possibly Jason Bay or Matt Holliday however, i dont see that happening, they need to spend the money on more important players (JUSTIN VERLANDER)

Verlander is one year away from his first real free agency period, they need to set money away for him, Edwin Jackson is also going to want to get paid

Gerald Laird has another year in Detroit i believe, Avila will back him up, Polanco is a free agent, and the Tigers REALLY need to get him locked up to a new deal, they have no viable player ready to play 2nd base everyday

Apparently you have never heard of Scott Sizemore. Combined at 2 minor league levels he hit .308 w/17 Hr, 66 RBI, 21 SB, 88 R, .389 OBP, .500 SLG, .889 OPS
I'm pretty sure they will let Polanco walk. They want Sizemore to start next season.

LF-I agree, something has to be done about the Guillen/Thames/Raburn/Thomas platoon. There is no way they sign a big name free agent like Bay or Holiday, but there are plenty of lower-tier OF's to choose from, including Jermaine Dye, Marlon Byrd, Rick Ankiel, Xadier Nady, and Rocco Baldelli. Any one of them could come in a help with the LF log jam. Or, they could look into OF/2B/SS Jerry Hairston jr, which could help them LF, 2B (if Sizemore struggles), or SS. Of course, this is assuming that none of these players re-sign with their current team.

SS-I already mentioned Hairston. They still have Santiago, but I'm not sure how he would do playing everyday. Felipe Lopez, Miguel Tejada, Marco Scutaro, Alex Gonzalezx, and Jack Wilson are all FA's.

pitching-I think this is where they will spend the most money. They need another starter. There are several top names on the list (Lee, Webb, Beckett), but I doubt we could get any of them. Guys like Jason Marquis, Erik Bedard, Chris Capuano, or Justin Duchshcerer, would help a lot. Washburn will probably be gone, and I think Galarraga is best suited for the #5 spot.

As far as Bondo/Willis are concerned. I say give them a chance in Spring Training to show that they have regained form. If they cannot do it then, either cut 'em lose, or move them to the pen. Actually, I think Bondo would do well coming out of the pen. I think Willis has just lost it completely.

Obviously this is all based on free agents alone. They could potentially make a trade for big name, but that would mean moving some of the current roster, as they have no system to speak of right now. They could also do nothing and hope it works out. I think they sign a couple of lower tiered FA's, bring up Sizemore, and make one big addition to the staff. That should leave them enough money to re-sign Verlander and Jackson, and hopefully keep the young nucleus intact.

Your right lol, i've never heard of Scott Sizemore, i'd still rather have Polanco, i wouldn't plug the rookie into the 2nd spot right away, the problem with Capuano and Duchschcerer is they have both bee ninjured and not playing for awhile..

I certainly wouldn't mind getting Dye, he kills the Tigers every season lol

They don't have to put Sizemore in the 2 spot. Given, there is no one else right now who could fill in, but if they pick up a decent SS, they could move Sizemore down to 8. I still think he would do well, even in the 2 spot.

And you can't measure a pitchers future based on past injuries. If they are cheap enough, they are a better option to fill in the rotation than anyone else on the team right now.

I'd rather have Zack Miner over Capuano..

I'd rather take a chance on Ben Sheets if anyone is getting taken a chance on

I'll say this, Detroit better be more agressive whereas last year they settled on Everett, they are in a position with a good left fielder, short stop and one more quality pitcher to win it all

I agree. Everett was not the answer. I wouldn't mind getting Jerry Hairston or Felipe Lopez in FA, putting him at #1, and dropping Grandy between 5 and 8. I think he would be better in a lower spot. He had an awesome 2007, but he did not hit like a leadoff hitter this year.

If the price was right, I'd give Sheets a chance.

Jackson and Grandy are gone... I miss Grandy already, Jacksons okay, but they need shed some contracts... Laird will hit better, Avila looked great but isn't quite ready to start full time. Scott Sizmore will likely start... Inge will probably hit better...

And now our closer is gone. Fernando Rodney sign with the Angels. Wonder if Ryan Perry is now the favorite to close. Probably better than Zumaya.
